I'm currently in the process of trying to lose some fat and tone up, without losing any muscular size. As well as needing to look at my diet, i've been looking at various fat burners that are available.

Do these things work or are they just a gimmick playing on people's insecurities?

Based on the advertising, this appears to be pretty good - http://www.maxperformance.com/mhp/myweb.php?hls=11...

Pass me the pop corn,
Make that the low carb pop corn.

If it works, then I could do with some help shifting some old fat I have been carrying around for ar too many years.

Alot of them used to contain ephedrine which is a controlled substance. They used to work extremely well, have seen people drop weight in rediculous timescales. They now substitute it with all sorts of natural ingredients like green tea and caffeine etc. Totally unsure how well these new ones work to be fair.

Best bet in my eyes is black coffee before a workout or my personal favourite... a sugar free redbull, invest in a decent protein shake to increase your protein intake and cut out all rubbish and you should see results.

There's an over-the-counter chest medicine with 'decent' levels of ephedrine IIRC.

Tom Venuto's 'style' may be tiresome, 'shocking' and repetitive but I have a lot of time for him and his advice. I bought BFFM some years ago and it's paid for itself many times over, over the years.

Ah the good old ChestEze, I'm sure they only sell this product to folk looking to lose weight! hehe

The truth of it fat burners can and do work when the conditions are correct (good diet/exercise plan) and I'm not talking about the Eph replacement products. If the conditions aren't right then they are entirely pointless because they will not offset eating junk.

I'm not going to go into what works and doesn't work as I'm not sure Pistonheads really is the place to do this but I have witnessed folk using the good quality ones to help with the weight loss process. You can never really be sure how much they do help but I've witnessed most of the stuff hanging around the bodybuilding world from the highly dangerous through to the very mild products.

I remember Mick Hart talking about being asked to try this great new weight loss product, taken in small quantities it worked great so he started upping the dosages and ended up having a heart attack. Anyway... He found out that the wonder drug be was taking was liquid ecstasy.

I believe a good diet and active lifestyle is more than enough to stimulate weight loss. Caffeine before a workout is a good boost but I wouldn't bother with anything else as its either pointless or dangerous!

bought this 6 months ago, passed it onto to Lee as well, if you can sift through the American ste! it has all the answers, I achieved my goal in the next 3 months thumbup

easily bought online now, well worth the money yes

on fat burners? I will use 1 x capsule of Isatori system 7 before a workout if I'm tired, recommended is 6-8 a day eek which for fat loss I guess you'd need to, but I use it solely for an energy boost.

You did kind sir and a fantastic read it is too!

I'm always hesitant to talk about these things on here as most of them are stimulant based and they can be dangerous just like paracetamol is misused.

Not to mention unless you've got diet and training down they are pointless anyway but under the right conditions they can be highly effective.

I once bought some ephedrine, which may or may not be banned now (edit: just looked, still available, amazed). Never again. Makes your head go numb and your stomach shrivel up and if you try and drink alcohol... oh my.

I've been taking them.

Not 100% convinced they actually work, and can't really pinpoint any fat loss specifically to them, because with my diet and training that I do, I'd expect to lose fat anyway.

It is, however, a good way to keep myself motivated. I know if I'm spending money on supplements, I'm going to make sure I go to the gym and diet properly to make the most of it.

Reading around, it's a "P" pharmacy product, so no restrictions. IIRC even POM products are legal to import/possess for personal use without a prescription, as long as they are not scheduled drugs.

One of my mates was using a product "Stimerex ES" - they look like black viagra tabs (but smell really bad) He trimmed up quite quick using them with a good diet. He seemed to think they surpressed his appetite allowing him to be more strick to his diet than what he would usually have been.

I myself, use MP Thermopures occasionally - usually take 2 or 3 pre cardio sessions mainly for the energy/buzz they seem to give me.

I read in the paper this morning that they have developed a new drug that targets the fat cells. It starves the cells of the blood supply and kills them.

Would be interesting to see how this would go with bodybuilding and cutting..
