Was anyone here circumcised as an adult?

As the title really. I'm considering getting circumcised and I'm obviously a bit wary about someone coming at my best friend with a set of tin-snips. I want to get it done because, (and this isn't a boast), when me and the missus get down to sexy times there's a limit to how much the skin can stretch and it can get painful... not that I care 'during', but afterwards - ouch.
So if any of you have had this done as an adult, how was it? Was there much pain; how long was it 'out of action' etc? I've had a quick chat with a doctor and done a bit of internet research, but bloody hell, how scary? Forceps method, freehand method, bloodless method?? The last one sounds good btw!

Thanks for replying. Without getting too personal, was that it - two weeks from start to finish and all was well? Did you go private? It was suggested by my Doc to go NHS but to be honest I'm not sure about that; will spending my own money equal a better service or would it be a waste? Went nhs, never even had to consider going private. Once my Gp said it needed to be done everything was fine. As I am a diabetic I had to be assessed to see if I was physically strong enough for the anaesthetic.
Don't forget that as a diabetic my recovery would probably be slower than most.
I was at the hospital for seven in the morning and ready to go home by midday.
The general anaesthetic does knock you around a little. But on the day of the op , I was not in any great pain .

I had it done last year. Reason was phimosis (so not terribly dissimilar to your reasons).
The thought is infinitely worse than the reality. It'll take around 4-6 weeks for everything to be back to 'normal' and recovery isn't too painful.
The recovery period isn't bad - change a dressing once a day for around the first 10 days, then the self-dissolving stitches start coming out themselves and things start to look a bit less terrifying. I reckon that if you book the operation for a Friday (if you can go private - NHS waiting list is 12 + months IIRC) then you could easily be back to work for the Monday.
The worst bit of the entire thing is your bellend rubbing against your boxers for the first couple of weeks - really horrible sensation. Not painful, just not nice. Soon passes though.
Get it done - you'd be surprised how common it is to have the chop in adulthood. Few days of mild pain, maybe another week or so of very minor discomfort and then a couple more weeks before he's ready for action.
I got mine done under general. There is the option of local, but there was absolutely zero chance I was going to be 'awake' seeing a scalpel heading towards my junk.

I had phimosis too and it would split the skin.
I got prescribed Fucidin cream and it went away in a week! Before, every winter it would stop being stretchy and start splitting but since the cream, no problems.
My Dad had it and was circumcised but my GP reckoned that circumcision is unnecessary in the majority of case but a lot of GPs prescribe it anyway out of habit!

OP - you don't have to get fully circumsised any more. They can just cut a little triangle out of the foreskin, which allows it to slip over the head normally. Not half as much recovery time apparently.
(Was looking to have to go down this route once, but my wife is clearly blessed with a clown's pocket and sex isn't painful at all with her.
