Radon gas and cancer (also quick update on mrs t's cancer)
Discussion
Read about the links with lung cancer any one know if its linked with breast cancer we live in a high radon gas area(mendips)so would be intrested to know if there are links.
Mrs T has just finnished her chemo 5mths of pure hell i dont mind admitting it was hard at times for both of us.
As one pher said it will be a journey and I can see what the meant but it hasnt beaten us.
Shes just started her next lot of treatment which is tomoxafin which she has to take for the next 5 years still a long journey a head but we were both positive about it.
The one postive thing to take from all this is we found out how much we loved and needed each other and also how strong we are as a couple if we can get through this then we can beat anything

Cancers is a c#nt - my wife didn't fit the "demographic" at all.
We've been through the operations and chemo, and the tamoxifen - however after 2 years she has had to stop it because of the side effects.
However on to your point about Radon.... don't know -we lived in a place in Daventry that had a Radon warning thing in the house survey, 8 years before her cancer.
She also had M.E before her cancer......
She also had depression before her cancer......
She also didn't eat eggs, smoke, was not overweight, drink etc etc...
I really don't think there is anything you or I could find to blame other than a big pile of s
t luck.
Didn't help really but I needed to put something for you.

Radon is a radioactive gas and therefore can cause DNA damage to cells that may result in them becoming cancerous. However it is very much a hit and miss situation as tumours develop in the body all the time but the immune system normally knocks them on the head before they develop so there are many factors affecting the likelyhood of tumours developing including the fact that the radiation has to hit the right parts of the DNA and cause the right mutations. As for the link between breast cancer and lung cancer unless the cancer metastasises and ends up in the lungs it cannot spread.
Thanks for the replys
Id never heard of radon gas till recently but was told the area where we live has very high levels throughout the region so I did a bit of research on the internet and found its linked to cancer.
Wether its coincidental but there seems to be high numbers of cancer patients in our small town when mrs toggs was having her chemo there were loads of people from our town having chemo.
Not looking for something or someone to blame but would make sense to us if there was a possible link.
Until she found her cancer mrs toggs was fit healthy and hardly ever ill.
People dont realise how the chemo effects patients it not only effects the persons appearance but also mentally mrs toggs was a nightmare to live with.
Towards the end of her chemo regime she could see no future in our relationship and said she didnt feel the same about me or our relationship which hurt like hell but I explained to her give it time and allow for the chemo to come out of her system if she still felt the same after then we would talk but I am happy to say that things have got back to pretty much normal.
She can now see the chemo for what it was and how it changed her and her view on us has completely changed.
Cancer is a horrid disease hopefully they will have the answers why and how but until then we just have to survive on hope

this is quite normal for the female of the species

One time I forgot to bleach the skirting boards down whilst doing house work bearing in mind the place was spotless and you could eat your dinner off the floor that didnt matter you would of thought id committed a murder or was having an affair the way she ripped into me
we laugh about it now though.Chemo is sure a marriage tester! Particularly the combo used with breast cancer - some are not quite so bad - I'm looking at chemo for secondary bc now, and a) it's tablet and b) the side effects are nowhere near as bad, but I wake up still with nightmares about the devastation caused by the FEC-T used for my primary. If you've got thru this together and come out the other side, you're in it for the long term!!
Word of warning - now active treatment is over (tamoxifen is active treatment but just taking a pill each day) not bouncing from next blood test to clinic to GP etc etc, expect the next phase to kick in - it's like being on a treadmill then someone hits the red button and it stops and you've nowhere to go. It's an odd, and in some ways harder than you imagine stage to be at - but you'll get through it.
