Early morning flight back from Goa this morning meant leaving at 4:30 for an 8:00 am (2:30 uk time flight)

Wanted to sleep through so bought some diazepam to help me sleep, havong never taken this and being an absolute idiot I took 3 10 MG tabs and soon passed out completely. Waking up 6 hours later I decided to take another 2.

Fast forward 8 hours I'm feeling very grogy and slightly dizzy, is this called the "idiots comedown" or something I should perhaps seek some medical help for?

Stupid I know, but any help given will be greatfully received.

Advice from a tame doctor:

You should not drink any alcohol, and make sure that someone stays with you. You should be OK though.

3 x 10mg tablets is a cracking dose. no wonder you slept well.
diazepam can linger in the body for many hours after taking - so the after affects may drag on a bit.

Diazepam has a half-life of 20 to 200 hours. 50mg in so short a time is a hell of a lot.

You'll live, again, in a week or so.

I'm surprised you only managed 6 hours on 30mg of the stuff, 10mg is a fairly stiff dose for someone not used to it. It'll be a while before you get excited about much though.

The big risk with benzodiazepines is not waking up after the initial dose, so you are over the risky period. As mentioned above, avoid alcohol for a while until you aren't feeling the effects.

most amusing

diazepam tends to be stored in fatty tissues and released again about 4-6 hours hours after you initially take it... so you will get a sort of 'second hit' from your doses. as others said, the half life if quite long and you took a massive dose... so just chill out for a while...

Hey Jimbo

next time why not try something less lethal and neck 32 tablets of codeine and a holf bottle of Jack in the departure lounge?

Remins me of the time I was travelling in Thailand, I booked a bus from Surat Thani to KualaLumpur.
When I got to the pickup point the only other passengers were an Ozzie Surfer and a scared looking Japanese guy.

We set off in our mini bus, the Ozzie dude pulled out a bag of diazepam and offered it round saying "this will make the journey tolerable" but Japanboy and I declined.

Got to the motorway and we had no wiperblades so the driver lent out the window with the wiper blade in his hand and wiped!

Got another hour on and we stopped to pick up a local (!) who sat up front and got his large handgun out and started waving it at other road users. Tuned out he was a policeman and wa bumming a lift. He let us play with the pistol for a while (!)

We reached the Thai/Malay border and the driver said "everyone off" so we had to spend a night in some border town, at this point the diazepam wore off the Ozzie dude and we went out clubbing. At which point he went and bought a large bag of amphetamine

crazy times

Indeed, nice work OP! I think we normally go up to 20mg PR diaz (if no loraz available) in fitting patients before considering phenytoin.

I've never really got on well with diazepam. Really nasty type hangover the next morning. Amazing how many elderly patients appear to be dependant on it to sleep.

Have your wedding vegetables shrivelled and dropped off? This is what we doctors call 'phase two'.

ahh the petit jardin du homme, a notable side effect of substance abuse, sounds rather nice in French eh?

Mon ami Simon, il fait the jardin incline...

that's another bit of French.
