Milk,

Apparently hormones what are in it are dangerous!

I need to give it up for my health then, though cornflakes will be dry.

Can you live without your milk? I gave up meat in 1995, not sure milk will be that easy.

Have you not become lactose intolerant? I know it is not normal for humans to drink milk and if you stop drinking it you cannot go back?

For me, the problem was that I drank milk. I have always drunk milk. I was lactose intolerant so had to stop.

There is an argument that people should not drink milk anyway, but regardless of that, I wouldn't drink the hormone treated milk they sell in the USA>

What is also worrying is Monsanto buying politicians to try and remove labelling from products.

Not drunk milk since for about 6 years now but use soya instead.

Only time I use real milk is scrambled eggs as for some reason it's not the same with Soya.

For me it's not an anti milk thing, I just prefer soya now.
Was that Thatcher enforced?

Having observed the various health advise over many many many years I came to the conclusion that it swings one way then another. I like my father who lived to 90 years of age drank about 4 pints of gold top milk a day had butter 1/4 thick on his toast enjoyed a scotch every other day and used to help me with my roofing business right up to about 75+.
Since I was a boy I've drunk about four pints of milk a day, eat steak, bacon sanwiches and doughnuts and everyone says I don't look my age and I'm not particullarly overweight. I do a lot of physical work and work outdoors all the time.
I guess if you sit on your arse all day in a job and stress about whether you'll get promotion or the sack you should not do what I do diet wise. Stay active, have inner calm and always be positive and get out in the fresh air and sun, then like me you can have a good laugh at all the fads that come up saying you shouldn't eat this one year then the next year its good for you.
I swear there are some clever marketing men behind these things and its good to be made aware of the fact that people are messing with the food chain at least we should show our contempt/disapproval by not buying their products.

The article says cows are given hormones. They aren't in this country. Not dairy cows. Not beef animals. Not any animals. Performance enhancing hormones are as illegal in this country for farm animals as they are for weightlifters - 'roids are just hormones after all.

The exception to this is steroidal anti-inflammatories used to treat some ailments (as they are in humans). As with antibiotics, these are prescribed by the vet, and their use is recorded. There are withdrawal periods that must be observed before the animal, or any of its milky goodness can enter the food chain. Milk is tested at various points along the chain to ensure it is all good stuff. The farmer is liable for any losses to the dairy. No one fks about with this st.

Thanks, I can't, and have no intention of changing the habit of a lifetime. I would hasten to add that such things as smoking and drinking too much alcohol should in my opinion be a greater cause for concern, not that there's anything wrong with the odd G&T but I can see no logical reason to stop drinking milk I even used to drink that awful milk at school which had for a time cod liver oil in it now there is positive evidence of my liking for milk.

Are they fads are are they just finding out more information about products? Milk is a multi-billion dollar industry, so no wonder it has good PR. People once though it was OK to eat mercury, but that fad soon died out eventually.biggrin
I currently still drink milk, but not as much as I used to, 4 pints sounds excessive to me. Especially when I read about what an excess of milk might do to you.

No, I don't blame you, TBH I don't think I will give it up, what started it all for me, is my GF read an article in the Mirror on Thursday, and it claimed that Milk is hormonal and no good for you, I gave up alcohol in 2009 not that I had a drink problem, simply that I don't need it, and I have never smoked, however I would give up milk if there was cast iron evidence that it was harmful, much the same way many gave up beef when Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy was found after speculative scaremongering.

I'm all for further investigation and enlightenment into what we may consider companies messing around with products in our food chain. I had a thing about e numbers years before there was a public outcry and always read labels of ingrediants. Now here comes the bit that may be considered bks by some but as a self taught follower of Zen I know how my mind and body feels and with the way I feel about my consumption of whatever I eat or drink I am at one with it so therefore I feel its ok. I do buy organic produce all the time as I feel people who are prepared to jump through the hoops to get registered to produce it must have a bit of a conscience about what they are doing. I avoid anything that looks too processed and as a rule never eat anything I don't recognise.
