dentist says we need to re-register every 18 months?

Our dentist (now private, but still does some NHS work) says if we want our 20yr old daughter to continue to be on their NHS books, we need to re-register her every 18 months. The OH asked if this was a practice decision, or an NHS one. Bluster followed. Anybody know the truth?

ive never re registered and im 32 been at same one since i was 7

Mine does this, if you dont make an appointment every so often (6 monthly checkups etc) they assume you've moved. Thats the excuse they gave me.

Is it down to the dentist though, or is it an NHS stipulation?

There is no "registration" in England following the last dental contract. You are patients of the practice (as far as the NHS is concerned) strictly while in the middle of a course of treatment.

In Scotland, registration is for life.

Don't know about Wales but I think it's the same as the English model.

AFAIK...you are only a patient whilst in a course of treatment. No real registration, so maybe this one wants you to return so as to retain your space where others trying to get in are prevented just cos you cba to get your routine exams!
