Someone explain;
Why is it I can switch street lights off just by walking underneath them, and watch them turn on again once I'm 10 yards away?
Why is it I can get static electric shocks off non-conducting materials, like plastic seat adjusters on my car?
I kid you not. I have seen these happen probably 50 times in the past year and have had mates witness said events while I'm in the middle of recouting them!
Is there a place I can go to get my genome sequenced to scan for alien dna?

You're not the only one being tested, there are 100s of people going through the same deal, they have to find the right people through trial and error.mattikake said:

I mean, I can even set off burgler alarms without making physical contact with the house or alarm.
I've blown fuses in too many kettles, TVs and PCs to count.
I can do this wearing anything from trainers and tracksuits, to Austin Reed jackets and shoes, to wearing nothing... although not for public street lighting examples of course.
ALL dogs freak out. ALL cats love me like catnip. Horses think I'm a horse whisperer (yet I've only ridden a horse once as a kid - I'm no horse lover). Squirrels follow me down public pathways yet run and hide the moment a human apppears.
After the a light has gone out, I've even got the knack of spinning round and doing a pretend gunslingers draw shot at the light for the exact moment when it comes back on.

And it's so predictable, I've thought about doing this! Well, the recording it part at least. There's me walking along a lit street. No-one is about. Perfect scenario for a light to go out as I walk under it. Do I get my phone out to record the evidence? Nah. It's not going to happen this time. And sure enough...! I spray the carpet area around my desk with it otherwise I get shocks off equipment racks, even through a few mm of insulating material.
I used to get half a dozen shocks a day, people at could hear the spark up to 6m away. Static can easily get to several thousand Volts and 40+Amps (for a very short time). ESD testing with human body models can use up to 32kV. That can jump a one inch air gap or less if through an insulator (metal under/near seat adjuster). Maybe you are a bit more special than the rest of us.
Blowing standard kettle fuses doesn't make sense (not enough power to heat the fuse) but the other items are vulnerable to ESD discharge if you get very close. I've designed ESD protection for alarm systems and they are particularly vulnerable due to the long cable lengths and use of unshielded cable. Its very easy to blow them up with a few kV. PC chassis ground shields often don't meet EC standards even when new .
As for the street lights, no explanation for that since you probably aren't close enough. Is your halo interfering with the night-sensor?
Interested stuff re: anti-static spray and tbh static is what I put it down to. Though what you say about street lights and range is mildly worrying, as I put that down to static as well!

I do have a high metabolism and as said, wear loads of different types of clothes and footwear. It doesn't seem to make much difference.

Dielectric strength of air is proven science. Around 3kV/mm (subject to temperature/pressure/humidity). So multiply 3kV by the distance you were from your spark target in mm and that tells you your charge voltage.Above 30kV (10mm) is unusual unless you like breakdancing on vinyl floors.
A video would be good to see of the street lights going out.
OP last night I walked under a streetlight and the bulb burst, I attempted to explain how a stranger on the internet "infected" me but my mates just took the piss. Do your find that your gifts also attract this kind of ridicule?
