Bought a static bike and a treadmill with heartrate monitors to lose some beef

They have a cardio zone based on height and weight but I dont feel out of breath or exerted at that rate / time.

So guys what rate and for how long on the bike and the mill would you think for a 48 year old 16 stone 5 ft 6 athlete ? (yes Im square)

Cheers

It'll probably suggest about 112bpm? If you stick to a rate that allows you a slightly breathy conversation, that'll be ok, maybe 120 or so, the secret is to do a long duration, as at these sort of heart rates, fat burning will on,y begin at about 30 min stage.

If you get bored stick a telly in there, or swap machines mid way through.

I believe the intent of those programmes is to maximise the duration of exercise you can sustain - if you are time limited, I think you would do better to work at the highest intensity you can maintain for the time you have got.

I'd do the mixture of above but mix long slower sessions with high intensity interval sessions.

I don't want this to sound like I'm lecturing you but 85% of the weight loss will happen in your diet but the bike is valuable for increasing the daily calories used and general health.

Rubbish diet = no results.

Agree on diet and I have stopped all junk food (well thats the intention)

BUT I have to do something to get the muscles working again

Soon LFC will be building a new ground and my parking space will be half a mile away or more - to me thats hard and I have to get up to a simple half mile walk at my fit mates pace before this happens - mad the things that prompt you to get your finger out hey

I've started doing 1.5 hours fat burning sessions now, not everyday but 3-4 times a week, coupled to dropping the obvious carbs like chips, pasta and bread, the weight it flying off.
