I also contribute to a triathlon forum and they're running a plank league to see who can hold it the longest and to encourage a bit of friendly competition and core work. thought it might be a bit of fun.

This is what I mean for those in doubt: http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises_10...

Wildly outlandish claims to be backed up with a video, so no cheating. wink

I'm off to the gym in a mo, so will give it a go and post my (no doubt poor) time.

If you're game, add your time to the list and as you improve, update your time.

What's worrying is that to do this, I'd have to do a movie on my phone, pointing up at my sweaty gurning face, complete with the horrifying effects of gravity on the chin(s).

Having described that, I imagine 50% will never ever want to see that, and the other 50% are making popcorn and getting ready for a bloody good laugh.

I'll have a go when I get home. I do know that I start to get the shakes around the minute mark though

My longest is about 3 and a half minutes, plenty of shaking by that point though!

Just over 3 minutes. Lots of shaking by about 2.30 but think I could have made it to 3.30 if I'd had someone pushing me

Hiromitsu11 - a deeply scientific "Just over 3 minutes"
Smitters - 2.01.

Feel free to quote and add your time to the list. Using a stopwatch preferred...

It might be a good idea to edit your first post and put the league table at the bottom of it? People can just submit their times on the thread and you can update the table, if you wouldn't mind?

For them as can't be bothered to read the Wiki entry, the current world record for the plank position is 33 minutes and 40 seconds, set in Queensland, Australia on 11 May 2011 by 68 year old Paul Drinan. 68!! eek

I'll give it another crack tonight and see if I can secure top spot. I'm sure someone else will come along and smash 3.30 though
