The Next PH Transformation thread
Discussion
Ok folks after the success of the recent competition I've been asked by some PH'ers to organise the next competition.
Timings
I'd propose this one goes over a longer period to cover the summer months/
March 1st - September 1st
Criteria
This is really up for grabs, I would imagine most folk are getting ready for the summer months and slimming down (I am!).
We could use the criteria of most changed in terms of either gaining muscle or losing fat?
Or do the PH masses think it should be a free for all over those months? Although I think its best to provide some goals and targets as these help to motivate everyone.
Once we have decided I will start a new thread thats clean of these posts and get it going.

I think goals should be up to the person, whether they want to gain mass or lose weight, or do both if they think they've got what it takes.
Minimum criteria should be, imo, a goal and your current fitness level in an easily measurable unit.
For example if you want to gain muscle then body weight + current lifting ability should be put in your first post.
If you want to lose weight then just a before body weight number would suffice. Each month we report on our change in goals.

I'm in and September would suit me nicely - give me a chance to get my sorry arse into shape.
Will pop in later once it's up and running.

Thanks OC. People like you and im on the predictathon thread take a lot of time and effort for the lazy feckers like me. It's appreciated.
Ok gents I'm raring to go, the timing of this for me is perfect.
Im currently somewhere between 115-120kg and dead on 6ft. (I'll confirm weight later once I've broken the scales). My goals between now and september are:
- Lose at least 10kg in weight, (10kg over 6 months I think is reasonable?)
- I've signed up for the Hull 10k on the 3rd June, I've done a bit of running in the past and completed an offroad 10k last year in 1:02:36. Aim for this 10k is under 1 hour - Just to add I went for a run on monday and only managed 4k in 27 minutes. lots of work to do.
- Bench press my own weight
- Waist is somewhere between 36 - 38" probably closer to 38", Ideally I'd like this at 34".
- I no longer fit in my wedding shirt, If i can get back into that comfortably I'll be a happy man
I will be keeping a photo diary but maybe not publish them immediately as I am FAR from happy with my body.

I'm in. Perhaps we could have a few categories, so for example weight loss, improvement in the big three lifts, five/ten k in a specific time.
Then folks can put their starting point and their target and we can figure out in percentage terms who's got closest? That would level the playing field a bit.

When it comes to weight lifting this does penalize people who have been lifting for a while. Then folks can put their starting point and their target and we can figure out in percentage terms who's got closest?
A beginner might start at 40KG deadlifts and be at 120KG deadlifts in 3 months. That's a 200% increase. Someone who can already deadlift 120KG would need to get to a deadlift of 360KG or he'd lose.
We just need to set realistic targets that are achievable with effort in 6 months.
For example, losing 1kg of fat is not really a valid target when the time span is 6 months. Losing 10Kg (as above) is.

I am in too. I enjoyed reading and contributing to the last thread. My goals for this six months are to gain at least a stone and to increase my weights. Not sure what thats going to be just yet but next time I visit the gym ill make notes of where I am at now and set my self some tough but realistic goals. Good luck everyone:-D
I am in for this one. Started 20/2/12 with a new plan. For me 2012 is an experimental year. Not fussed about winning anything just for fun. Ill get some photos taken and get some details put up over the next few days.
Didn't get into the last thread as I missed the start so didn't see the point.
Judging a winner is an extremely difficult thing to do. Perhaps 25/8/12 we nominate people into a short list and then we can have a poll and who ever wins, wins. No criteria just a user vote of who has made the biggest* change.

- I agree with the fact the biggest change isn't always the biggest increase in numbers.

Fair point. I'm sure there must be a statistical way of evening it out (c'mon statos, there must be someone better qualified than a man using his fingers..!). Maybe in percentage terms of how far you are from your stated goal, so if you aim for 120kg from 40kg and make your best lift at 112kg, then you're 90% of the way there, whereas if you lift 120kg but want 160kg and make 158kg, you're 95%. Perhaps also state no extra points for exceeding the goal, but you can restate/revise your goal at anytime?
I like the idea of a short list system, instead of this competition being an out an out battle against each other It should be equally about your personal goals.
At the beginning EVERYONE should set a number of goals (say 5 - 10) that they want to achieve, at the end of the contest participants should be judged by other participants on the number of goals achieved, difficulty of achieving said goals and overall result according to a pre-determined scoring scheme. The individual scores can then be totted up and averaged out with the highest average score winning. This way everyone has a vote and it (hopefully) eliminates any malicious voting through the averaging process.

I would like to jump in on the Transformation thread this time chaps. Most of the above is sounding like it may get complicated though...
Wouldn't just a picture at the beginning, and a picture at the end show the winner in the simplest way? My thinking is that it should be obvious from the pictures what your goals were - the more obvious is it the better the participant has done.
If you have to ask what their goals were, or refer to their original post at the beginning of the thread, they perhaps they haven't done a great job?
Just thinking/writing(!) out loud.
ETA - I do like the 6 months rather than 3 though. It means people will have to go someway to maintaining their transformation/new lifestyle if they make quick changes in the first few months, to save yo-yoing back to their original shape by the beginning of september for the final photo.

Im definitely In this time guys, I want to put on approximately a stone of lean muscle in the next 6 months taking me to 15.5 or 16 stone... I know its not a huge target but ive been lifting a while and gaining lean weight is pretty hard I find without gaining Fat. Any tips would be great
I agree it's getting a bit complicated.
How about:
Set 6 month goals for yourself. As many or as little goals as you like.
Each month you post a picture of yourself and an update on how you're coming along with your goals.
At the end we just put it to the vote.
Simpler and easier to administer.
For example, my entry would be:
User:Frankeh
Age:23
Height:5'10
Weight:77KG
Starting picture: <picture here>
Current stats:
50KG Bench press
57KG bent over row
65KG squat
90KG deadlift
38.5KG Overhead press
Goals:
80KG bench press
80KG bent over row
110KG squat
160KG deadlift
60KG Overhead press
