Kidney Failure how bad is it ?

Hello a mate has just found out his kidney is failing (he only has one from birth) has anyone on here actually been through the process of having a replacement fitted ?

How long did it take to get better etc etc any advise welcome

No personal experience but met quite a few people with kidney failure of varying degrees.

Some have to have dialysis 3x per week, some don't, some are dead.

Your kidneys are pretty bloody important really.

I know you are looking for good news mate but have kidney failure with only one kidney to start with is pretty serious stuff. All you can do is try and support him. Forget how you are feeling about it as you dont really matter in this. Sounds a bit harsh I know. There is a seriously good chance he may never get better.

He will have a good idea of the seriousness of it as the Doc will have disclosed a lot to him. He will tell you if and when he is ready. Just be the best mate you can.

Not directly... however, my mother was a ward clerk on a kidney and renal unit for a number of years, sure she'd be happy to talk about it.

Will speak with her later today and ask if she's happy to have a chat about the realities of it (I'm sure she will be) - PM me and I can put you in touch
