You could see your local NHS Podiatry department - it would be free in this case. Ask at your GP office, you may be able to refer yourself

You don't need to remove the toenail. Go tio the doc he can give you tablets. For me the course took 6 months but it worked and I had the infection for about 10 years

As above, go doctors, leave toe clipping for tests, if it is a fungal infection it's a three month tablet treatment. Mind cleard in three, but it can take more.

As others have said, simply removing the nail won't work. The anti-fungal treatment will kill off the fungus and then the old nail will eventually grow out. Apparently it takes 12 months to grow out the manky nail. It's less for a fingernail.

Worth putting anti-fungal sprays in your shoes and replacing socks so as not to re-infect the nail.

Doc told me to take Terbafine for 6 months, I took it for four months, it was nearly cleared and I lost interest in taking the tablet every morning, it came back with a venegeance, so I took the Terbafine for 6 more months, fully gone, I've got fab toenails now!

but seriously, the advice above is accurate. Months of antifungal tablets is your cure.
