So when do I stop acting like a man and go to my GP?

I have a cyst on my knee, it's been there years and is about the size of a small pea. It has never bothered me before up until about two weeks ago when it's decided now is the time to cause me some pain.
If my leg is bent, say when I'm sat at my desk, then it feels like someone is drilling into my kneecap. In this position my knee also seems to be 'seizing' up a bit (rather painful when I attempt to move it again) and occasionally makes a grinding noise.
I know I should probably go to my GP, but so long as I keep my leg straight I'm fine. I'm being optimistic that if I just ignore it it will go away.

I had a cyst on my shoulder which had also been there for years and was about the same size. It just seemed like an extra bit of skin
It started to grow one day and like you, it was a bit sore to move my arm away from it's normal position, this turned out because it was swollen and was pushing on the muscle.
I only went to the GP when it became really painful and he sent me to A&E with a referral note as it needed to be drained.
I was operated on late that night and had it drained. Apparently it was full of septic puss and had it burst 'inside' my body i would have had septecemia (sp?) and been laid up for a month!

I know 2 people who've caught scepticimia, one lost both feet, one hand and all his fingers off the other side. The others dead.

he might have been thrilled, but he shouldn't be doing that sort of surgery if he can't do the job properly.Then it came back
All in all, your two attempts at treatment have cost the tax payer (more than) twice the amount.

My friends brother had a "cyst" on his leg. GP agreed. He waited a while but it still bothered him so he used his private cover. They performed a biopsy and it was malignant. Chemo followed. He was warned it may come back, and it did. He has been diagnosed terminal.
This won't be you, but get it checked anyway.
