Evening all,

Hopefully a quick question. Last couple of days my back has been having a little bit of pain, its my lower back towards my right side.

I'm unsure what could have caused this, could be my kit at work (Police), or sitting in a van that isn't very comfy.

Going to see how it is in a couple of days, but wanted to know if anyone has any simple exercises that could help strengthen it, ideally stuff I can do at home, stretches etc.

Going to the doctors for a bad back seems a bit silly at the moment.

Thanks.

Core stability exercises are a must. You start getting pain in legs or your butt visit doc. Could be bulging disc. Given your job it will probable be the gear or bad posture in vans etc.

Google core stability.

All the best.

Thanks smile. I'll have a look at some core exercises, and if it starts moving towards my arse/legs I'll get to the doctor.

Yeah I do wear one, I'm not sure if it is this though, as I've worn it for nearly two years (not all the time as I'm a Special, but used to wearing it now). I'll see how it fits next time I'm in, hopefully it was just sitting in the crappy van for a few hours last night.

I'll remember the swimming, seem to remember a few people saying that in the past.

Erm, yes and no. Yes, because most Docs seem to know bugger all about bad backs. No, because the longer a back complaint goes on the harder it is to shift.

Get yourself down to see a Sports Therapist/Osteo/Chiropractor/Physio etc etc and get checked out. It will cost you £40 or so per visit but it's better than being stuck with a bad back.

My bad back has not returned for over a year now, since I started yoga, I cannot recommend it highly enough
we get more men than women in our class and we all have bad backs
I was getting crippling pain which would last for a month and I was unable to drive in the mornings for that month, just started going through the referral system for docs when it went away, thought I'd try a bit of self help before going down the consultants route and it's not come back, I get mild pain every now and then, more so at the mo as I've been a bit hit and miss with my yoga as I've been a bit tired and sickly with pregnancy

Best exersizes I find are the cat roll ups and sphinx poses and general leg movements whilst on the back to help get it all flowing well again
You don't have to go to class but it does help so you learn how to do the poses properly

yes Any exercise(s) that strengthen or maintain/increase flexibility will help enormously.
For me it's weight lifting - after decades of chronic lower back pain I've been pretty much pain free since I started lifting weights nearly ten years ago.

Bloke at work does the body building stuff and hasn't had a bad back for years now and he puts it down to all the weights he does.
I'm a fellow back pain suffer and do various exercises to help the core and stretch.
I have 2 bulging discs (confirmed with MRI scan).
I've had around 4 trouble free months but the pain is starting again and getting difficulty walking and fking sciatica again so I,m going down the spinal injections route to cut this pain out so I can get on with exercising.
Catch it early because lower back pain really isn't any fun at all.
