htc is the haematocrit, the most common reason for it being mildly elevated would be dehydration (unless you live at high altitude). There are lots of other things that can cause it to elevated in older adults but most of them would be very very rare in children. Worth asking the GP how much the htc is elevated and if there are any other abnormalities on the blood count +/- blood film.
