Sore throat - home remedies?
Discussion
Got a sore throat. Really sore. Starting to piss me off now.
Anyone got any home remedies that they reckon actually help?
Temperature normal-ish, breathing normal, swallowing normal for me (eg all ballsed up) so I'm not medically worried and certainly not going to bother a doctor about it.

Chloraseptic spray.Numbs the area quite nicely.Same effect on your throat as a glug of nose candy.Which is nice. But not nice enough to start hoarding bottles of it.Anyone got any home remedies that they reckon actually help?

Gargle with hot, really salty water. Make up a pint and work your way through that. First mouthful needs to be proper hot, otherwise the lot will be cold come the end. Don't swallow it. Works for me. Get well soon.
+1 works for me tooHigh dose vitamin D3 boosts immunity (1000IU plus - I take 10,000IU daily)
e.g. see

You can buy it in concentrated liquid form from Holland and Barratt and also from Amazon.

Assuming drowning is too extreme a solution to the sore throat, I also find Strepsil lozenges are quite good, if you can stick one under your tongue? Otherwise, I would up your vitamin intake and give the body a good base for fighting the fecker off - fight it inside out so to speak.
I don't know if they even exist, but there might be an antiseptic spray or inhaler product available?

hot toddy works for me as does gargling vodka, but as you cant do that I wouldnt recomend it.
quick question, hope it isnt to personal, but why can you gargle?
The medical term is dysphagia. You have a set of muscles that need to coordinate in a sophisticated way when you swallow, to close your airway and send the food/drink to the back of your mouth and down your oesophagus in a timely manner. That process doesn't work properly any more for me. If I stuck a load of liquid in my mouth and tipped my head back it'd go straight into my lungs and cause Nasty Problems. I can take small, careful sips of things on good days, am supposed to use thickener (a corn starch derivative) to make liquids less runny so that it can be more easily marshalled around my insides, and have a PEG ('feeding') tube for most of my liquids and some food to bypass the problem altogether.quick question, hope it isnt to personal, but why can you gargle?
Mostly what I do is stick to small sips on good days for stuff I actually want to drink and use the tube for the rest. Coffee thickened to the consistency of custard is exactly as nice as it sounds.

Thanks lads. Can't gargle (see above - swallowing problems - I'd drown!) but something approaching a hot toddy sounds/feels like a good idea. Do I lose millions of butch points for having to drink it through a straw?
Only if you put an umbrella in it.br d said:
Yeah you do but you can get a few back by spitting on the carpet afterwards and then wiping your mouth with your sleeve.
Sleeve may or may not occasionally be deployed in such a manner. When nobody's looking.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
