The NHS - My Experience

I am currently in hospital and it looks like I will be here for a while so I thought I would give a running update as I'm pretty bored sat here in my bed!
I have been unfortunate enough to spend a fair amount of time in and out of various hospitals during my childhood and teenage years. However it seems that everytime I am back in the care of the NHS my experience is better then the time before, the amount of care I have received since I was brought in a few days ago is incredible.
My memory is a little hazy over the past few days but I think it was Mon or Tue evening I was brought in by ambulance after ringing up myself complaining of terrible chest pains, it turns out I was having a heart attack. Something no one ever wants to experience, let alone at the age of 23.
I have been under constant care since and have undergone several tests and it turns out that due to complications and a pre existing condition I need to be transferred to a hospital in london sometime later today to undergo some open heart surgery. Thats a pretty scary thought for me, I've had a few general anaesthetics before but never had something as serious as heart surgery.
When they told me I would be transferred to London, I had visions of going full chat down the M4 with blues and twos on, but I suspect the reality will more likely be an old peoples transfer minibus type thing!
Anyway I will update this thread and let you all know how I get on.

Unable to sleep at the moment, still in glos due to an emergency at harefield meaning they were unable to accept me today. Hopefully off in the morning.
There is a poor old chap opposite me, he must easily be in his 90's, who was brought in last night having been run over by a car :-( Poor chap is very confused and keeps waking up shouting for his mum :-(
I have had an incredible amount of support from someone very close to me who has barely left my side through all this which has helped me no end. Despite that it has started dawning on me this evening the severity if this all and that there is a long way to go before I'm out the other side.
Here's hoping.

I had a heart attack 3 years ago and the response from the 999 call was quick and the care excellent. Unfortunately as a fit 46 year old the aftercare was more tailored to someone very old who should take things very easy.
ie Maybe I could do some light weeding
Not useful when you are the bread winner with young kids. I was forced to see the consultant privately who put my fears to rest and got me back to work within 3 weeks.

OP: as a student hoping to become a cardiologist, may I ask what undermining condition caused the attack?
I'm not the OP but in my case, non smoker, right weight/height, active job, pretty fit but likes a drink and diet could have been better, cholesterol of 5.9 and stressed about finances and split from wife.
In the OP's case it's pretty shocking to happen at 23 but unfortunately we have all read of cases of fit young footballers falling prey to cardiac arrests recently

I have managed to work out how to solve a rubiks cube yesterday! Very chuffed! Lol
Anyway should be having surgery today or tomorrow :-\
