Been popping one of these a morning for the last few weeks on top of my diet, and I think they're acutally helping kick ye olde metabolism into action.

Anyone tried else tried them?

Medical sources said:
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has published the results of a clinical trial conducted in 2007 that show that that evidence is insufficient to support the use of capsicum in weight reduction. The clinical trial evaluated the safety and effectiveness of 6 milligrams/day of capsaicinoids over 12 weeks, and weight loss was not achieved in test subjects.
your wallet will weigh less

Capsicum is the active ingredient in your snake-oil thingy, save yourself some money and crew on a raw chilli before exercise.

Or stop eating quite so much

although, presenting both sides of the argument, there was a study in 2011 called "Dietary capsaicin attenuates metabolic dysregulation in genetically obese diabetic mice." which was vaguely supportive. Published in Journal of Medicinal and Food

I'm sticking by my wallet-lightening viewpoint though.

Thanks Doc. Though just looked at the bottle and each capsule contains 80 odd milligrams of capsicum. Which quite a bit more than 6. smile

I am using them, the pro version wich has another tablet called 5-HTP or something. It certainly has had an impact on my appetite and I don't crave sweets and choclate so much.

I have lost 1/2 stone in two weeks with exercise so something is working. I have also given up booze so the jury is still out whether it is the tablets that are working. I have a couple of months supply so it will be interesting to see what happens when I get of the wagon.

Half a stone in 2 weeks? That's going some, even with exercise. Well done.

To be fair I am pretty over weight. I weigh (or did) 19 stone so it is probably easier to loose that amount quickly. Be interested to see if it continues for the next few weeks at that rate.

Problem is, even if it does work, once you stop taking them, what happens?

I dropped 4lb last week after starting my "regime".

I'm solely doing cardio (30 mins on an exercise bike).

I find that the "near death" feeling afterwards is quite an appetite killer.

Oh, & no carbs after 16.00 hrs.

Wonder what next week will bring (hopefully some respite in the saddle-arse department)

Fair enough. Dunno what the long term effects of taking them are... has any research been done focusing on this?

In any case, notice how everyone seems to say "I took XYZ once a day, ate healthily and started exercising... lost weight!" (where XYZ is anything).

Yes I know what you mean. They even say that they don't work unless you are dieting + exercising. I guess the question is do you lose MORE weight by taking them? I am unsure, it is about £38 / month but I was spending way more than that on wine so I am not out of pocket. I might try dropping them for a month and seeing if I lose weight at the same rate.

Drop the wine and you'll lose more. What would be interesting is to see if your weight loss/gain changes if you lead your lifestyle and eat the pills.

Yes I am currently on the wagon so when i go back to having a drink it will interesting to see the effect.

I suspect the no-booze and exercise is having a far bigger effect than the pills but I wonder if the pills are having any effect.
