A q for a dentist

how often do wisdom teeth come through in an 'advanced state of decay' (this is on the report sent to his employer)

the reason I ask is that my son who is away at work has had to get a wisdom tooth removed whilst abroad, it was not cheap, ordinarily his employer would pick up the tab , they are baulking at the price maybe and are trying to say that he has not had regular check ups so are trying to have him liable for the cost , he reckons he's only missed one check up in the uk.

teeth do not erupt with decay. But a wisdom tooth may have been peaking through un-noticed and have a catchment area where sugar and bugs are trapped which will give the hole. This can be unavoidable. So I see it quite regularly. It can also cause a hole in tooth in front which is very irritating.

Indeed. I have an operculum and it a bugger to make sure it remains nice and clean.
