So, the OH has been feeling tired recently. Really tired, to the point where she feels like she has no energy whatsoever.
The Doc has signed her off and has diagnosed a Vitamin D deficiency as the reason.
I'm no Doc myself, but always thought Vitamin D was from sunlight, etc and a deficiency led to Ricketts and the like but certainly not fatigue.
The Doc says that Vitamin D is something "they're learning about"
Has anyone else had experience of this? The poor woman is knackered after walking to the shops and it's something of a concern that she sleeps soundly but wakes up feeling like she's been awake for days.

Now I'm not suggesting this is the case with your wife AT ALL but there has been some evidence that lack of Vitamin D is, one of, the cause of MS of which fatigue is a main symptom.
So it is possible, although not 100% proven, that lack of Sunlight (and therefore Vit D) can cause such problems.

ironically i was reading about the daily intake of Vitamin D today and the recommended daily dose by the European commision is 2000 IUs (international units- often labelled as such on a bottle where 1000IUs typically is 1 tablet)
However there has just been a study by a university in Teheran which states that its safe to take up to 7000 IUs a day.

If the Mrs doesn't eat much Salmon, Mackrel or Sardines, or doesn't get much exposed skin out in sunlight/daylight, then she probably has a vit D deficiency through lifestyle that has slowly caught up with her.
Loads of medical conditions can cause a deficiency too though, cancers to MS. So if it's a sudden change and eating loads of oily fish or cod liver oil doesn't help, it would need more investigation.

Thanks all
We're going on holiday next month anyhow so hopefully that will help. Just hoping she improves a bit before then as the journey would wipe her out at the moment.
A more thorough Google search has indicated that there is a correlation between Vit. D and fatigue. She's on supplements so here's hoping for improvement.

Good old Dr Google. We'll no longer need GPs soon.
You may be closer to the truth than you think...telemedicine and the Internet are about to transform how we care for ourselves, and seeing a GP face-to-face may become the exception rather than the rule. Google to find out more!

Sorry this is so long out of date, but I've been on hols...
My anecdotal 2p:
I use a Vit D supplement in the winter and find that my mood and energy are improved significantly. This may be medical or it may be a placebo effect. Either way, I see no harm in taking the Vit D as my job confines me indoors during daylight hours. It did take a few weeks to take a noticeable effect though.
