Whilst we are all well tuned, fitness fanatical fitness guru's, for those that smoke.......how many do you get through, and for how long have you cracked on for?

Personally, I have spent the best part of 10 years at the gym, at least 90 minutes a day, weights, cross trainer, etc and felt pretty good about things.I'd still smoke max 5-10 a day, but that was excused. Now, as I grow older it's too easy to leave the gym and drink/smoke my evenings away. Ivehad a little heart scare recently, and whilst not directly a cause, it does make you wonder. In addition to that, there are people n PH who live like monks and still have problems.
I've been in denial, gut my smoking and drinking have rocketed since I moved to Dubai.....but do you worry? Do you think it'll never happen to you? I've been giving up for months, and I still promise myself I will when Chiili jar is born in Novenber...but do you need a reason....I do

Have variously battled against and very much enjoyed smoking, around ten a day, given up a few times, sometimes for a year, longest was four years.

Stopped again about a month ago, had a cough I couldn't shake for seemingly months. Have felt a million times better since quitting this time. Still crave a crafty one about five times a day...

Yes, I worried...especially about my throat.

I'm 32 now, been smoking at least 20 a day since 18, started around 12yo.

A few unsuccessful attempts at quitting thrown in there as well.

Currently between 30/40 a day now

Ouch that is a £200 a month habit young man...

Still way cheaper than a pension though.

Been wondering about this for ages, I have smoked for years on and off, only 5 a day so not heavy at all, but sometimes I just can't be bothered to go to the shop and buy fags, then I think if I have done without a smoke for a day I'll not bother, 5 or 6 weeks go by of not smoking then all of a sudden I fancy a smoke, so I go buy a pack smoke them, then not bother for weeks sometimes months.

I do feel bad for smoking and I feel i have committed a sin, but I like to relax with a beer and a smoke, is that a bad thing?

I would like to think I could quit forever but I do enjoy a smoke.

34, smoked pretty much every day since I was 14/15. If I'm working then it can be 10 a day, if I'm drinking it can be up to 40. I thought the birth of my daughter in May would be a good catalyst to give up, but it wasn't.

Yes I do worry about it too. I'm in pretty good health, and my parents both smoke still, well into their 60s and are fine. But I do just sometimes think "what if" this cough, or this chest pain, or this tingle in my arm is the one that never goes away.

Tried e-cigarettes and easily the most effective method yet, but still didn't get me away from the real thing.

I enjoy the act of smoking however I'm not addicted (yet.) I go to the gym from Monday to Thursday and will only smoke on the days off. Even then it will only be when I feel like it which is a couple over the weekend. I've done this for 5 years and can count on one hand the times I've really had to stop myself from smoking more during the week.

Im 33 smoke about 20 a day. I enjoy it in some ways and hate it in others. However i aim to try and give up soon. Mainly because its just a waste of money + health issues.

I think i will really struggle to give up but hopefully but im going to give it my best shot. I just aim to keep myself busy.

I smoked 20 a day for 30-odd years - gave up December 2010 with a few others here. At the gym I hadn't realised how much it was affecting what I was doing until I stopped. Everything from endurance to skin pallor has improved.
Couldn't have been simpler and feel very much better for it.
Stop lying to yourselves and find a way to quit that works for you. [/lecture][/pious]

I've been a 20 a day man for 20 years since I was 14. I love smoking but I was starting to worry about the effects etc so I switched to e-cigs. Started off with the Skycig kit you see advertised everywhere and then quickly progressed to a more "professional" set up and haven't looked back. Still get my nicotine fix, get to stand outside and gossip at work but I feel so much better and no more coughing my guts up in the morning. I also find the e-cig flavour juices properly nice to smoke. I'm on Caramel Coffee today.
