I can't drive saloons as my bad back seems to need a high sitting position,in fact I'm so OCD about this that I measure the height of the seats when I'm shopping around (16"+ is best), my short list at present is:

VW Tiguan - good height but need to spend £1600 on leather to get good seats!

Audi A3 - Sports seats are excellent but if I jack the seats right up I can't see out of it (low screen).

Mazda CX5 - Good seats but they are supposed to have a harsh ride also not much cheaper than above.

Volvo XC60 - Lovely car and seats but actually quite low to the floor.

There, I've confessed my obsession, but if you suffer you'll know what it's like so any feedback from fellow back sufferers out there? - I'm sure I'm not alone in all this!

Motability have a tool for this!

Go here. Adjust parameters as needed; the fewer specs you limit it to, the more results you'll get.

There are cars that aren't on the Motability database but it covers the bottom two-thirds (ish) of the market very well indeed.

Our old Lexuse RX300 was the most comfortable car I've ever had.

Also consider a Volvo XC70 - slightly higher ride height and wonderful seats.

There is no seat that is good for a bad back. There is only sitting and all of it is bad for your back. Fix your life, drive any car you like.

Um... not all bad backs are fixable. My mate's mum has fused vertebrae in there somewhere!

Good shout on xc70.

X5 rides well and has decent seats.
