Recently been in Cuba, arrived back last Monday morning and have had extreme diarrhoea and a dodgy stomach since then. There were 32 of us as it was a wedding party and around 10 of us have been ill - one has officially been diagnosed with Cholera and been told to stay hydrated with hydration packs etc.

I suppose I must have it, or a weird tummy bug. Either way, I haven't been into work yet and it's continuing today.

I will need a note for work tomorrow if I don't go in.

Will they give me one over the phone? I know the easiest thing to do is to ring and ask tomorrow morning.

Currently waiting until I need the loo so I can keep a sample.

Grim.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Like your collegue with suspected Cholera, you will also need to remin hydrated as you will be losing valuable fluids each time you ablute. As to going sick; if you haven't already, I'd make contact now with my GP out of hours service rather than wait until tomorrow. Good luck!

Self certificate for the first seven days, gives you chance to get a formal diagnosis and sick note off your GP.

Despite what the majority of PHers would say, stay away from work.

I'm at the 7 day point now (including weekends).

I've produced a 'sample' in a Tupperware container and I will phone the doc tomorrow to let him know what I've done. From what I've read, Cholera will be fine if I drink loads of water and stay hydrated.

I'm just really worried that work think I'm taking the piss, so I want a note from the doc. But the doc hasn't seen my 'symptoms' - will he therefore issue a sick note?

Doc will most likely have to home visit you before issuing a sick note.
