Anyone had Invisalign treatment?

Hi, i've been looking into having the Invisalign treatment and had my first consultation today.I was told i'd need both the upper and lower arches treating and was quoted a price of £3400.

Not to be accusing but how do I know i'm not being ripped off or being given excessive treatment?

Any experiences i'd love to hear.

That's not a bad price. But ask if any finishing off with wires at end will be needed and if included in the price!

Nope. A mate does it and doesn't believe it can complete the full course and so some fixed wires at end!

That comes as part of it plus a little bit of treatment on one of the front teeth.I've not got the price down to £3000 due to an offer in the paper however I have some doubts.I've read elsewhere on the net that it's best to be performed by an orthadontist, i'm not sure this dentist is trained in this.Any thoughts?

2 of my close friends have. The one finished his treatment about 5 months ago, his teeth look ok.

The other finished about 2 years ago and she tells me her teeth ate going crooked again. She also said she wishes she'd have had proper braces now instead of the invisaligns.

I'm no expert but I think her issue will be that she should be wearing a retainer at night to hold them in the right place. For some people regardless of how they get straight they need to be kept straight. (but happy to be contradicted by an expert if that is wrong)

I think the price you've been quoted is pretty good and is about what I paid - however I second asking exactly what is included in the price. For me, the price included two sets of refinements, teeth whitening, end-of-treatment retainers, fixing a chipped tooth, and hygenist appointments every 6 months.

You are correct after treatment with fixed braces in my early 20s I still need to wear a retainer every 2nd night nearly 10 years later. So in short I will have to do this for the rest of my life. If do not wear the retainer you can see the movement after a week or so and feel the movement through tightness of the retainer.

I've been reading up on Invisalign and alot of people are recommending treatment by an orthadontist however I think this guy is a dentist.

I've now received it as IT bods took ages to sort out. The website looks nice but I dont know of them. I know location but dont have a clue. They seem to have right credentials and have done the correct courses. So its your choice.

Wife had this done a year back - she has to wear the retainer every other night and aches if she forgets for a week.

Is there a patent on the process? I did wonder, what is stopping a company setting up a business where they send the moulds to the customer and then the customer returns the moulds and then receives the fitted plastic trays? (Although I think they need some plastic buttons fitted to the teath to hold the trays in place)?

that wouls breaking the law..ie performing the act of dentistry...much involve examination and consultation...see struck off doctor who got nurses to give botox with only a quick phonecall!

BTW..at the prices quoted there isnt huge profit in doing this invisalign..count the number of visits and the bleaching/aftercare...and the high charges of the plastic appliances...which are high!

Cheers Maghee for the advice, are you in the dentistry game? I've been looking for an orthadontist who offers Invisalign but all I can find are dentists ut surely an orthadpntist will be better especially if any follow up treatment is required.

I had mine done. Started in 2009 & finished 20 months later. My teeth were as wonky as a row of old headstones & I cant believe how well they've turned out. I probably wear the retainers 3 times a week & each one lasts 6months or so. The process was pretty straightforward the worst part was early on in the treatment whereby my teeth had to have a mm or so filed off each side to allow them to move. Ceramic "buttons" may have to be glued to the teeth also, these sit in rebates on the aligners & allow pressure & movement to be applied to each tooth.

Treatment (including whitening) was £3500 & retainers are £350 every 18months.
