Pregnant wife - Early (non-NHS) reassurance scans in Herts

Hi all
Due to previous difficulties, my wife and I wish to have an early scan undertaken (approx 9 - 10 weeks stage) so has anyone had one done in Hertfordshire? If so, what was the experience like? I have found the NHS to very good staffed by lovely people so that is our benchmark.
If anyone can recommend anywhere and give a brief line on their experience I would be grateful.

Can't help you with Hertfordshire but if you want to use the NHS you can I believe use any hospital you want. University College London Hospital in London (UCLH) is pretty much a national centre of excellence for anything of this ilk so I would definitiely recommend seeing them if you are concerned. It has a specialist Obstetrics wing, you are unlikely to have the same level of expertise available at a regional hospital.

Both my chidlren were born there.....absolutely fautless. Lucky enough to live close though.

It is run by a chap called Professor Kypros Nicolaides who if you Google him you'll find out that he invented/developed the protocol that is used globally for Down's screening. He's pretty much the best there is apparently. From memory I think a scan there is £200 which given what it's for is money that may well be well spent if it gives you peace of mind.
We actually did both with our second child as there were some concerns.

Share your concerns with your midwife/gp. If they feel its necerssary they will arrange an early scan. If they dont feel it's needed then they wont.
A scan that early wont show up much unless you fear an eptopic then again the NHS will do it for you free of charge. There is no need so early. If anything is wrong as such it'll stay wrong, you are better off spending £200 on a few nights out to take your mind of the awful waiting game till your 12 week scan.

Again, can't help with Hertfordshire but we had early screening carried out at King's College Hospital at Denmark Hill and have absolutely no complaints (except for the exorbitant car parking charges around the hospital :O

Cant help for Hertfordshire Im afraid but after several misscariages we went to the Alexander spire hospital for a viability scan at 9 weeks , nhs just were not interested in doing it Im afraid , we found it gave us huge peace of mind we went on to have scans at 12 22 and 32 weeks cost was between £140 each and we have some great pics and a dvd of our boy who is now 7 weeks old . For us it was definately worth it the nunchal test for downs was simple and explained carefully and provided further reassurance ,we did not have the nhs screen as a result as we were told by the consultant Mr Penman that there was more chance of a false positive if we did.
Our boy was delivered in the nhs hospital local to us I dread to think what the cost was as it was a long 4 days labour and just the entonox bill would have been huge!

The problem with NHS hospitals is that they all have different protocols for how they deal with these matters....which is why I think you are better going to one of the bigger more specialist/teaching hospitals. They just have more experience in these matters and are likely to have specialist experience in the exact area you need advice on.

We had a scan last week (about 7 weeks I think) due to some bleeding and we saw the heartbeat which is fantastic but we lost two at 10 weeks each I know in two weeks time they'll be some sleepless nights hence considering a reassurance/early scan.
