For years my scalp has been royally getting on my nerves, doc says its sebhoraeic dermatitis, and keeps fobbing me off with crap shampoos that make no difference.
I'm not too fussed with the flaky dandruff side if the condition, it's the fact patches of my scalp are bright red that I hate. One patch is in the middle of my hairline and is rather noticeable.
Anyone any ideas on managing this, or for stopping it being so red?
Thanks

I get psoriasis in my scalp and after years of crap shampoos etc. I heard from a friend who tried something called Bettamouse; it's basically a mousse that has betnovate in it along with a few other ingredients.
Anyway, I went from a red patchy scalp (not good if you shave your head like me) to clear in about 3-4 days. Try not to use it too often though as like any cream etc. your skin becomes immune to it.
Could be worth a try.

Is that a steroid? Is it ok to use that on your hairlineAnyway, I went from a red patchy scalp (not good if you shave your head like me) to clear in about 3-4 days. Try not to use it too often though as like any cream etc. your skin becomes immune to it.

It's got a steroid in it I believe. I had no issues using it all over my scalp, including behind my ears and hair-line.
Like I say, for me it worked so quickly that I found myself using it for 3-4 days in a row and then not needing it for another few weeks.
I agree with a poster above, get to a decent dermatologist.

I have sebhoraeic dermatitis, mine was caused by radiation treatment, & the resulting hair loss meant ugly red patches on my head that I hated because they were so visible.
Shampoo wise by far the best for me, & I have tried them all, is Alpecin, & made a noticable difference in less than a week. But, you need to treat your skin first, & I use a trick that I picked up on here from a guy called, I think, Stefan. I use Simple moisturiser with 5% tea tree oil mixed into it, & for very bad attacks Dovobet, but this must be used VERY sparingly. I think you would need to get that on prescription.
Edited because I have fat fingers!

I find that avoiding shampoos with Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate (SLS) helps a lot. You do need to look for them though - funnily enough Waitrose does quite a decent selection!!
I also find coconut oil quite helpful - it's anti bacterial. I leave it on overnight, sleeping with a shower cap on, though I think you only need to leave it on for an hour or so.
And lastly - don't touch. Picking and even touching just makes the irritation even worse.

Mentioned this to the docs. They gave me it in a liquid application.Could be worth a try.
3 days later I have a perfect scalp and a shaved head.
Thank you! I have been putting up with it for nearly a decade!
Just try not to use it too often as your skin soon gets used to it and it becomes less effective; a couple of times a week should keep you on top of it.
