Evening all

After seeing an advert for Alpecin shampoo, and doing a little research, I'm thinking of giving it a go. I'm 30, and whilst i'm not bald, i'm beginning to receded.

So basically i'm posting to hear of your experiences with these miricle hair gain products... What sort of results have you had? Any side reactions?

Cheers

There is a drug that actually works. I can't remember what it is called and the side affects are more than a little off putting:

You grow tits and lose sex drive.

I'm not sure if it works or not, maybe it slows down hair loss, I'm not sure. It does say that you need to use it every day, and if I do that my hair ends up like straw.

So far as I know, there is only one tested and clinically proven product that works, and that is Minoxidil, which is the active component in Regaine. As you might expect, it isn't cheap. It is available from pretty much every chemist though. Inevitably, you have to keep using it to stop hair loss returning. I haven't tried it.

According to Wiki, a generic version is starting to become available, so the price may drop.

Minoxidil

Which stimulates blood flow to the hair folicals that are dying, however once the folicals is dead it's dead, can only delay the process
Personally I wouldn't bothere, that's from a 43 year old who's well on his way, number one all over.....goatees and being powerfully built helps smile

Good man, my hair started falling out in my 20s and I accepted it, a lot of my friends that took the piss are going bald now in their 40s and trying all sorts to stop/hide it.

They get ever so upset when you take the mick out of their selective combing hehe

This. No matter what you do and whatever product you use this will always look better.

I think the medication being referred to is proprecia which supposedly acts to inhibit testosterone acting on whatever causes the hair loss. There are side effects but not common and reverse if you stop taking it. Definitely do not take if trying for a baby as will cause birth defects in boys due to it acting on testosterone. I know someone using it and it has worked well, reversing and stopping hair loss and no side effects.

With some people, the side effects are permanent and there are men who regret ever hearing of it with what it's done to their lives. It doesn't just give you erectile dysfunction, it screws with your hormones to a point where you never want to have sex again.

i use minoxidil and it works well, and hair is growing back very slowly and filled in the "island" a bit more.
i get a cheap american version imported, costs about 15 quid for 3 months, compared to rogaine which is crazy money.

the other thing is Finasteride or propecia. which in tablet form is supposed to work well but as mentioned comes with side effects i wouldnt risk over hair, mainly the loss of libido and erectile dysfunction which even after stopping taking the tablet mey not come back.

i tried the alpecin shampoo but apart from giving me an itchy scalp it does nothing. i would try minoxidl, it works for some and not for others, i seem to have been lucky.

Exactly. No one cares if you're bald or are going bald. But someone trying to pretend they're not bald or not going bald, that's an very rich seem of humour.
