Some of you know I've got secondary breast cancer. One of the 'delights' of this sweetheart is its not usually possible to remove the secondary tumours - they tend to be a cluster rather than a lump so it's virtually impossible to extract them - hence the "this is not curable - it's going to get you" diagnosis you get when told you have secondaries.
One thing which can help in some areas of cancer is Cyberknife, a generic name for stereostatic radiotherapy. I've had palliative radiotherapy successfully on my spine and hip, and it's great, but it won't stop the cancer returning. The nature of the stereostatic is it can be given precisely at a curative dose, which is much better obviously.
However there are no facilities for it in Scotland - the response if you ask is go private in Englandshire. There are only about 5 centres in Englandshire. We hear postcode lotteries no longer exist - what is this if not one?!

I'm sorry to hear about your illness. What is the cancer treatment like up here in Scotland?
I will happily sign up, my mum had breast cancer about 8 years ago and it was horrible thing to go through, for both her and the family.
I wish you all the best and hope that things improve for you.

Isn't NHS Scotland devolved, in which case surely Englandshire petitions will simply be ignored as irrelevant. Surely you'd be better focussing on the Scottish equivalent of NICE, and asking them to reconsider the business case for having this treatment available? Perhaps you could ask them why this is not available, and yet they see fit to provide free prescriptions for those who are quite able to pay?

Could you also lobby your MP, cc the appropriate health minister and maybe go to or threaten to go to the media to raise this "there is still a post code lottery" issue for some possible leverage/support building?Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
