I have taken a liking to soya milk, flavoured and natural.

Is it likely to do me any harm? Probably drinking 250 ml to 300ml per day. Occasionaly more.

I don't drink cows milk as it doesn't agree with me.

What do the nutrition people say?

Cheers.

I stay away from it as I'm not keen on GM food.

Used to like rice milk but can't recall if it has sugar in it or not.

Alpro stuff is GM free and Tesco's own used to claim to be GM free - can't say about it currently though. Personally I prefer it to cow's milk on muesli but then I never really liked milk anyway.

There is plenty of non GM soya around.

I haven't had cows milk for over 20 years and I use soya on cereal and for cooking (top tip - don't add cold soya to something hot - it curdles, heat it all up together and it'll be fine).

I'm sensitive to some of the "gunk" that is in some processed soya milk so we tend to make our own - http://www.wholisticresearch.com/shop/home/m/Shop/...

Absolutely dead simple, add beans, add water, turn on and you've got soya milk in c. 15 minutes. It's easy to clean and the milk lasts for 7 days. We use non GM organic soya beans and last time I priced it, it works out around 20p per 1.5l of fresh soya milk, plus you don't have to drag cartons back from the shop we just keep beans.

Whether it's good or bad for you depends which research you read. There are some that will tell you that soya is the food of the devil and it's unnatural and will cause you to grow three heads. There are those that will tell you that some asian countries have been using soya as a food sauce for a vast amount of time and they have good rates of heart disease etc.

As ever, choose which version you fancy and go with what suits you.

And there are those that will tell you that countries where there is a very low occurrence of bowel cancer eat soya every day. What the soya marketing companies fail to mention is that those countries eat a tiny bit of soya every day and a st load of fresh fish. So you want fish milk. biggrin

I didn't know. Possibly it's from EU.

I did and got this - probably not what you were expecting?!

As I said, there is a huge amount of conflicting "advice", best to read all around the subject and make an informed decision, rather than just googling one aspect of it.

As I wrote, make your own mind up! I find it's easier just to stay away and eat something else. (I do enjoy soya milk, though.)

There isn't any oestrogen in soya as it's a plant. Only chemicals called phytoestrogens, which have a very weak oestrogen activity and so have to be eaten in large volumes to have any risk of implications. For men it would lower testosterone and women a higher risk for deveolping breast cancer. There are more prevalent risk factors for both these conditions than soya milk though.
