I understand people can get wound up from certain noises, a dripping tap, nails on a chalkboard etc. For me, it's the sound of certain people eating. I have to leave the room sometimes when my mother or sister eats because it really makes me cringe, and even (discreetly) angry on occasion. No one else seems to notice it. Most other people I'm fine with, and if I'm eating I don't notice the issue, it doesn't cause social issues in restaurants/cinema or whatever, although when I was younger I always refused to sit near my mother at the cinema. My youngest sister who is only 8 feels the same and is quite vocal about it, and one of my mates also said he has the same problem, and apparently there is a "condition" related to it...

Am I going mad? smile

The sound of crisps being crunched in the mouth makes me cringe. But its the chewing and gulping sound that makes me feel physically sick. You are not alone haha!

The worst sound in the entire world

For some reason, they occasionally use it on TV adverts as well. Marketing 101 - don't use the world's most awful sound if you want to sell me your product.

If I accidentally turn over to it, Match of the Day football crowd singing. Worse still, those horns they blow incessantly during continental games.

OP, I'm the same. I can't stand the sound of people swallowing or gulping food/drink. If somebody is eating an apple, I have to leave the room.

You may have Misophonia

Apples are the worst! Especially when they take two bites from it in quick succession before chewing mad

The sound of the Xfactor. The crowd cheering/screaming like excitable Americans and the judges saying "you made it your own" repeatedly.

The sound of a baby screaming is almost unbearable to me, especialy when there is no way to stop them. My son had an undiagnosed dairy allergy as a baby and the memory of him screaming with colic night after night still upsets me 15 years later.

I'm the same with the eating. I have a lot of all day meetings and there's one guy who eats without silencing the phone. Drives me mental.

The ex-Mrs Smitters was a loud eater too. I often left the room.

Sniffing. If you can sniff you need to blow your nose, you are an adult and it is disgusting.

Doors banging constantly because lazy feckers can't be bothered to shut them. Drives me utterly insane! And I'm the only person who ever gets up and shuts them!

In my office I have to put up with 2 blokes who don't sniff they Grunt like pigs.

One is only every now and then but the other guy it's all day everyday. When I say it's loud that's not a joke.
We have had people walk out of meetings, refuse to sit near him, totaly loose the plot with him but nothing changes what he does.

Just recently we have been trying to find something that winds him up. With the aim of everytime he grunts we give him a dose of something he doesn't like. Don't think we could wire his chair to the mains though :-(
