Who's had Flu this year

I have been to hell & back the past 7 days can't ever remember being this ill approaching winter. I could not even get out of bed, popped the usual paracetamol, 2 different types of antibiotics, some cough mixture etc
Some vomiting occurred as well, loss of appetite etc. now I am dental a professional so seen a fair few patients with severe colds in the past few weeks & I have had staff off ill with it as well, and some came in till I decided to send them home. Trying to find out where I caught it, payback me thinks, only jesting.
Today is the 1st day, I am feeling much better, just a bit of a cough left. Missus has been wonderful, very attentive & brought me the new Need for Speed yesterday to cheer me up, so I am resting & a bit of a PS3 day, I could not even play while so ill, felt it was disorienting me, so what do you do, sleep loads & go on PH a lot.
Back to work on Wed, no doubt will have my receptionist's telling me patients were not happy being rescheduled etc most of the patients are fine about professionals being ill, but some really expect you to come in, even if your dying it seems & I can't understand that as were all human, any explanations?
Me being a professional obviously am sympathetic. Funny thing is receptionist always has a list of the bad ones & notes exactly word for word what is said, but those patients are really nice once they see me personally.
Sod's law at its best was going to have the flu jab today, note in diary make sure I have it earlier, no way am I going through this again.

k. Nothing much cheers you up when you're that sick. I had swine flu a couple of years back, as did my wife who was 6 months pregnant and so did our 18 month old. That was hell. I could barely move for a day. Never felt so ill in my life.
Our 18 month old got through it really quickly but my wife and I took over a week, I then had a post viral fatigue type of thing when just walking up the stairs I was knackered and had to sit down.

2 people in my office is also down with some kind of cold and can't stop coughing/sneezing... surely it's better to encourage people who are ill to working from home rather than coming to the office and spreading the germs around 
Totally agree, but I suppose it's down to employers & your boss. I know in my practice, I send people home, to reduce risk of spreading & also trying to help the said ill employee. Likewise patients who still come in full of flu/cold, can barely stand properly, I send them straight home, bed is the only place for them.My little moan, is at patients who expect me to come in, even though I am ill. Don't they realise its very easy on a busy clinic to spread the flu/cold bugs. Also not very safe & accidents can happen as you can't have a lapse in concentration, then face a lawsuit
so not prepared to even entertain that idea, but the biggest moan a certain percentage just will not accept healthcare professionals can fall ill.Edited by RJJ on Monday 5th November 13:56

The teenage son of my boss got swine flu, which triggered an underlying condition. Spent 6 weeks in a coma. Suffered every possible organ failure (you name it. It stopped working). Had the last rights read to him. Turns out it's quite nasty.
But it wasn't this year. The Mrs had a nasty cough but that's it so far.....
I had flu a couple of weeks back. Was feeling okay. Just a bit of a cough. Then went out for a 20mile bike ride. The next morning i felt like death, was in bed for 3 days and had no voice for one of them. Still got a bit of a dry cough now, but I'm nearly back to 100%. Not felt so ill for about 4 years!

Sounds like 40% of my story. A ten year old memory feels 60% worse once recalled.RJJ u need to chillll, if you're ill you're ill. We as dentists have a habit of treating our patients like royalty (certainly in my practice) and their expectations go through the roof. So when the rare time you're off does arise, all hell breaks loose! If you look at the waiting times at GP surgeries, both when trying to make an appointment and the amount of time one has to sit there, dentists are doing pretty well. And I won't even go into secondary or tertiary care. So chin up, don't beat yourself up over it, you can't do anything about these things, and remember, patients might bring the house down on reception but they're always sweet as pie when they walk into surgery!
NB. You mentioned two antibiotics,I hope no self prescribing has been taking place!
