After reading a lot about this I thought I would give it a go as a post workout drink and bought a small tub of chocolate flavour powder from Holland & Barratt as a trial. The mixing proportions are 60ml of powder to 125ml of water or skimmed milk etc. This gives it a consistency though of a gruel that Oliver Twist would have objected to, and with water it just tastes like chocolate sick yuck

Presumably the mixing propertions can be changed, albeit at the cost of an increased calorie content, but what can be added to improve the consistency and/or taste?

Get unflavoured impact whey from myprotein. Tastes fine with just water and well priced

To be honest this is more a product difference. There are a lot of proteins out there that taste like they've been mixed using homeless peoples feet! Some will always have bits in never mind how much water you put in. Some can taste better/worse mixed with milk. Myprotein has already been said but their protein shakes do mix well and taste pretty good. The best mixing and tasting shakes I've had in the past have been TTP or bulk powders. No need to add extra water or milk to mix.

If by fine you mean drinkable then yeah, but only just!

I get unflavoured, mix with three teaspoons of nesquick and about half a pint of milk. It's really nice and gives you some carbs for recovery and some slower release protein from the milk too.

I have two scoops instant oats and one scoop whey. Nice and thick hurl 500 calories and around 30 grams protein

It's their hurricane xs unflavoured that really makes you gip. I have to eat a banana at the same time to make it manageable

I have the Holland and Barrat stuff for post gym. 2 scoops to 250-300ml means you can chug it down without bits or having to chew.

Blend the banana in, makes it taste nicer.
