Go and see a specialist running trainer shop and they will check your gait. This studies how your foot lands as you run and the correct trainer can be chosen from this.

I bought some New Balance to run in, but found that they were not supportive enough and hurt. I took them to the specialist running shop, who told me that I had excessive over pronation. They suggested some Axis trainers with duo max compound to help postion my foot better. It has made the world of difference.

I suggest Axis trainers as these will be around the upper end of your budget.

Have a look here to get an idea.

Some would just say try lots on around your budget and buy the ones that feel right. The 'science' around running shoes has recently been debunked as marketing in order to justify high prices according to a recently published report that made it to a tv documentary a few months back. Good luck!

2 schools of thought:

1. Your foot is the only part of your body that needs help to do what it evolved to do....luckily, gait checking can be done and a shoe suggested that will correct the way your foot moves. This is handy, because until 1978 people couldn't really run. They just jogged slowly waiting for Nike to come along wink

2. Your foot is fine, any problem is more likely CAUSED by over supportive shoes. Get something minimal, read Born to Run, laugh at gait checking biggrin
