Due to a promotion at work, I now walk between 8 and 12 miles per day, previously I was in a physically demanding roll, but stood in one small area..

When I get home at 0100 I go almost straight to bed, but now every night I wake up with massive cramp in my legs.

What can I do to try and reduce this cramp?

As soon as you get cramp, use your leg muscles to pull your foot back as far as poss so your toes are pointing towards your head. That should ease the pain.

Treat your work as an exercise class; warm up at the start of a shift and warm down with some quality stretches at the end. Then think about your hydration and mineral regime. If you're not eating or drinking healthily, you may not be helping matters. Good luck!

The various posts of classic remedies suggested on here are all spot on and certainly worth a try. However I developed cramp when I first became diabetic. Depending on your age and general health thus could be an early warning to change your diet and lifestyle. I would suggest seeing your doctor or a well man check. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck I do hope it proves to be a simple matter.

Clearly there is a connection. Tine to take the Diabetes very seriously. I have lived with this for 24 years now. I lost just over ten stones when first diagnosed. Kept this off. Huge amounts can be achieved with diet and exercise to control diabetes. I do wish you well:I would not ignore the warning your body is giving you.

Magnesium tablets. Take one before kip and you'll have the best night sleep in ages.

Drink Tonic Water. The quinine in it cures cramp.

I do not doubt that panacea's can be effective and mask the problem. But I do think that a serious discussion with a diabetic specialist and a permanent change of lifestyle is likely to be the long term solution.

I believe you are getting a timely warning from your body. I would heed that warning, personally. I did and for 24 years since I changed my lifestyle I have never had cramp again. Entirely up to you.
