Aiming for a Healthy Jan - would anyone like to join me?
Discussion
I like my food - I like my drink. I'm getting bigger and I'm starting to feel it.
So in January I'll be having;
- no chocolate
- no cakes / crisps etc
- no booze
- no bad stuff in excess
- less strong coffee
- less cheese
I have recently bought a road bike so will aim to get out on that a bit. Having kids somewhat restricts the amount of free time I have for exercise.
Current weight is 13st on the dot and I'm 5'10.
What is a realistic target for my weight by the end of Jan?
Anyone else like to join me?

I'm with you!
Cutting out the sugar in tea - I must have 10 cups a day - so thats a reduction of 10 spoons a day - 70 per week - put like that it sounds awful.
No biscuits - my vice for many years.
Going down to one pudding a week (from 3/4 a week).
Generally making an effort to eat better/cut out an amount of rubbish.
I cycle, play roller derby and get to the gym 3/4 times a week so I'm active but use that to 'justify' the food lapses - this year will be different!

Glad I'm not on my own.

Sure about the coffee? The positives outweigh the negatives for me:-

Mrs Star and me are cutting out booze, for me at least that's quite a stretch. But it should get my year off to a good start. Am currently 13stone 8 and 6 foot 2 and aiming to get down to 13 over the next couple of months. Exercise isn't a problem, I run and swim competitively though running has been curtailed recently through injury.

The first bit of weight loss is the easiest. You will probably be able to lose 8lb in a month just by binning alcohol and sugar. Push it further to also bin white flour (and flour products like pasta) and you should see a couple of stone fall off you over six months pretty easily.
I've already done that bit so my 'Healthy Jan' will be more '5km PBs' biased.
All power to anyone trying it.

I'm not into fad diets or calorie counting (pretty obvious if you see me!).
My back of a fag packet calculations indicate that if I do everything I set out to do then at a minimum I will be taking in 4000 calories less each week!
Hopefully that will be enough to lose a chin after a month. Exercise is a lot more tricky - not sure how I will find time for that.
I will be cutting the carbs, crisps, alcohol free/limited (got a 6 week head start on that), snacks.
Cheese is my downfall and I will not cut that at all.
Will mainly move onto meaty dishes and salads for food.
Drink wise I have water and some water/juice (fresh) drinks... cant do hot drinks till I can walk up stairs again unaided.
Exercise will be mandatory as I start rehabilitation as of next week to get me walking again, otherwise the physioterrorist will kick my ass, so when I get the go ahead I will be swimming, but for the moment I have enough equipment at home to start the long process.
This is simply due to the fact I wont be allowed in a gym for a while and cant train outside unless I have a training buddy.

Eating healthy won't mean you automatically lose weight. Eating fewer calories will, though. And burning more calories.

I've heard kebabs are quiet good for dieting Eat s

My other favourites are, I don't need to train legs as I play football/cycle/*insert some other sport and they are massive and yet when I seem them, they remind me of drain pipes.
These days, I don't care enough to point out the truth as they don't want to hear it and won't welcome it.
Ok I'm in. Realistically you could get to about 12 stone 5 or 6 if you do it sensibly, which it seems you are. 8 or so lbs can make a big difference. A stone even more so. I'm 5'7 and going from 13 down to 12 stone made me look a lot different. Back up to 13 right now, put half a stone on this xmas. Good luck.

I am in.
Currently 6ft and 14stone 2. Want to get to around 12 stone 6, but in about 6 months. Not really managing calorie intake as I do not want to be a slave too it, however high sugar foods, like fizzy drinks and cakes have gone, no more take outs and I have started running, currently play squash/football once a week aswell.
So heres hoping in a few weeks I will have some good news to report
