I have been ill over christmas (the flu, can't seem to shake it off). My wife, parents, many friends. Speaking to work colleauges on the phone they report the same. There just seems to be an abnormal amount of people ill at the moment? Anyone concur?

Yes, was in the new - some serious outbreak this year. Being extra wet last/this year doesn't help as well. I've also got the cold on and off but (touch wood) nothing too serious yet...

Precaution is important. Wash/Disinfect surfaces regularly and also top up with multivitamins will definitely help.

Not helping when people are mixing with other people when they should not be. Like going to the doctors surgery coughing and spluttering when all the doc is going to do is send you home to some paracetamol and bed.

thought i'd avoided it, then it hit saturday morning. havn't got dressed or been out since.
the mrs went to tesco earlier to get me yet more day and night nurse capsules, and had to get 1 of the staff to get some from out the back as the shelves were bare. also been on homemade honey and lemon, (shot of brandy).
i know us men are good at manflu smile but it has really knocked me for 6 this time frown
had the old hot and cold shivers all last night, and then mid coughing fit pulled a muscle in my back frown
woe is me and all that. the mrs has been a star though.

Me too, been hit by killer death-ray flu since Thurs with an added dash of Polonium poisoning for good measure.

Don't want to do anything except lie on the bed and cough for England. No appetite either so things really are bad frown

Flu started on Boxing Day and it's been a bd, even now I'm still feeling rough. Not much you can do with it except stay in, no amount of remedies or paracetamol seemed to make any difference.
Had a nice 4 day break booked up in a spa hotel, couldn't go, no refunds :-(

Flu is a big killer worldwide (people that are already weak or weakened due to something else), not generally reported as such unless the press give a catchy name such as bird flu.

I've currently got a chest infection, the first one I've ever had in 24 years. God has it hit me hard though, total loss of appetite, no energy whatsover and if I tried to stand up I got dizzy spells, constant coughing to the point I got a shooting pain all across and around my waist and the doctor also diagnosed me with a bruised lung. Pretty much ruined christmas for me and so far I've been to the doctor 3 times and have been given 3 diffrent types of antibiotics. Over the worst of it now but I'm still coughing and getting that shooting pain everytime.

I really can't remember ever having flu or a cold. The odd sniffle or sore throat but certainly nothing to stop me working. It must exist though as my staff always have 1 or 2 day versions of it rolleyes

I started with the shivers on the evening of Thurs 13 Dec at my work's Christmas do. The following day (Fri 14) I had to go to a wedding and was freezing all day - very odd as my OH reported being plenty warm enough in a thin, strapless dress. The following morning (Sat) I couldn't get out of bed - the worst thing was an unbelievably sore throat. The following day (Sun), the same. Then Monday, same again. Phoned in sick at work. At this point I'd only been off sick for five days in my 18 year working life - I'm not generally one for being off sick. On the Tuesday I hauled myself out of bed and made myself go to work, but regretted it immediately as I was so dizzy I really shouldn't have left the house. When my boss turned up she told me I looked so ill it was making her eyes water looking at me and she sent me home. The next day I had already booked off as holiday and spent it feeling dizzy. Then went back to work on the Thurs and Fri feeling a bit better. As the cold died off it was replaced with sharp pains across my chest, round my sides and down both sides of my back every time I coughed or sneezed. Getting out of bed became near impossible as any attempt to sit up resulted in the same excruciating pains, coupled with a feeling of being completely drained of all ability to move. Three weeks after it all kicked off, with the muscle pains having subsided a bit, I started going to the gym again. I felt immediately improved but the pain remains in the right side of my chest - it feels like I've been stabbed there if I cough or sneeze or when I try to sit up when I'm lying down. I've not been to the doc's yet as I figured I'd be wasting their time, but I am starting to find it really tedious now.

Gotta love the number of people online moaning about having flu.

In my experience (once about 8 years ago), if you had flu, you wouldn't be online. Or doing much at all.

yes

There is the flu test

Get a friend/relative to place a £50 note on the floor of your bedroom just out of reach. If you pick it up its yours to keep.

If you pick it up you don't have flu.
