Broke ankle (tib/fib displacement, now pinned and plated) and stretched/ruptured tendons on either side of ankle but not on top.

On 31st Dec I got my air cast, which means I can take it off when I want to shower and air the foot, however its none weight bearing on the ankle still.

The reason being was the orthopaedic surgeon says the physio needs to see me first (despite the surgeon being very happy with progress), the appointment came through on friday for the 21st Jan, already tried to get earlier and they cant do it.

Can someone tell me why it needs to be none weight bearing until I see the physio, as this cast is quite a lot heavier and with the muscle wastage I have its extremely uncomfortable to use and I want to regain some muscle back, not let it waste away for 3 more weeks.

Also I was given no bandages/tube sock things and I cant keep wearing the same one as it needs washing every other day due to 5 weeks of skin is falling off my foot in vast amounts. But I have not been advised on how to care for it other than let it fall off naturally with just water.

This all stems from the surgeon not needing to give me much info as the physio would fill in the details assuming my appointment was going to be last week, or early this week at the latest.

Help please.
