Having just had an operation on my deviated septum, I can't believe anyone has multiple nose jobs ( or any un-necessary surgery). Bloody hell it's uncomfortable and if it doesn't work I won't be going back for another go.

Thanks I'm no stranger to the inside of a hospital but this one takes the biscuit for being the quickest operation that has caused most pain and time off work!

Having pulled out a couple of overly long nostril hairs and felt the pain i can not imagine what surgery on that part of my nose would be like.

Well, I've sleeping sitting up for two days,now. The amount of mucus,blood and other nasties is quite staggering. Still, I make a squeaking sound in my head when I swallow so its not all bad

Oh dear, I was thinking about getting this done as I've got a wonky nose from having bobbed when I should of weave'd a few times, it's been giving me bother for months now as I can hardly breathe through my nose at the best of times. It never hurt when I broke it the previous few times, was the operation under general or local anesthetic?

i had the same operation done 6 months ago and i must say mine never hurt it just felt uncomftable espically when having to sleep upright for a week.

must say i think your doing better then i did as with the amount of drugs the hospital pumped me with befre i left i could barly remember my own name let alone see a computer screen

It's done under a general anesthetic and takes half an hour. If it allows me breathe and sleep without rattling the windows it'll be worth it. Two weeks off work is nice but you can do sod all, no lifting or bending, you have to avoid people (which I quite like) due to the risk of infection. I'm sure there are more I've forgotten but that's most of the basics.

I've just been told the snoring is already greatly reduced.

I had same , Thought whats the point of having a big nose if I cannot breath thru it...surgery took just over 5 hours.. and weeks of pain...sore throats..etc..

its is nice to be able to breath now tho..

cost over £3k over 10 years ago...(company paid)

When I was a kid I smashed my nose on a metal fence and messed up the septum somewhat. It was almost permanently blocked after this and at 18 I had a minor (30-minute) operation to try and sort it. Aside from making blood come out of my nose for a couple of weeks, it did very little for the symptoms.

They said that if it was unsuccessful, when I turned 25 or so I could go back for much more invasive (5-hour) surgery that would sort the problem. Well, I'm 25 now and in recent weeks have been growing more and more fed up with my blocked nose (oddly, it's worse in winter). I wasn't particularly relishing the thought of lengthy face surgery before, but this thread has made it worse!
