Henoch-Schönlein purpura.

My son was hospitalised the other night with this after a week or so of battling really nasty flu-like symptoms. We took him to the late-night GP at the local hospital and were then sent on to paediatrics. Initially his lower limbs/joints started swelling up and he refused to walk due to pain in his feet, but just as we were about to load him up into the car his feet started to develop the sharply defined, non-fading reddy black spots that I tend to associate with meningitis. As you can imagine this scared the s
t out of us.
The docs at the hospital were extremely efficient (GP, consultant), as were the nursing staff and our son was assessed, transferred and diagnosed PDQ.
He's back home on antibiotics, paracetamol and some anti-fungal stuff and has had a much improved day today, though he was obviously tiring by dinner time.
I've read one or two items online about the complications that can arise from HSP and have frightened myself further, although I gather that the prognosis is generally favourable.
Have any of the PH membership had experience of this?
