I have gone and signed myself up for a Dragon Boat race in July and need to start trainning up for it!

Anyone know of any good exercises to get ready for this? Oh and I dont have a gym memebership or access to a Dragon boat until the day of the race if that makes a difference!

Thanks

I'm sure general fitness and upper body strength will help (maybe do some canoeing or Kayaking), but if your other team mates are lardy marshmallow balls, or more importantly you are not co-ordinated as a team, then you ain't got much chance. Try and practice as a team beforehand, eg, set out chairs where you'll be sitting in the boat and have your caller/leader get you into a rhythm. It was the well drilled teams that did well when we did it.

Good fun though!

Rowing Machine would probably help. It's different sort of exercise in that, for example, you don't use your legs the same way, and the stroke is different, but it will help you get strength/speed/endurance you need in a dragon boat.
