My girlfriend started complaining about a pain in her knee a few days ago which then became a sore and swollen leg, then today that progressed to a numb foot.
She went to the walk in centre, saw 4 doctors who didn't have a clue and then sent her straight to her GP who has now referred her to the hospital.
He thinks it might be Guillain Barre syndrome. It doesn't sound pleasant.
Anyone had any experience of this?

Guillan Barre is quite a diagnostic leap from there.
Much more likely to be something like: a thrombosis, knee injury, cellulitis, sciatica
Common things are common and Guillan-Barre is very rare
They don't know yet. She's being referred for an MRI.

At the walk-in place she saw four doctors and none of them were really sure what was wrong so they immediately made her an appointment with her GP along with a letter that said towards the end "I can only postulate that it's Guillain Barre Syndrome". She saw the GP that afternoon and now she's just waiting for the MRI appointment.
Of course, because of what the letter said she went home and googled it and scared herself s
tless that that's what she had but given that it's still only her leg that is affected I'm inclined to believe it's not that.

I got mixed up earlier, it was her GP who wrote the letter that mentioned Guillain Barre syndrome, this was for her to take with her to the hospital the next day.
I've other concerns now though. They prescribed her Co-Codamol (Solpadol, 30/500mg) which she's been taking since last Friday (about 6-8 of the fkers a day). Last night she was wide awake all night with hot and cold flushes, shaking like a leaf, heart pounding, heavy and erratic breathing and was rather aggressive. She was like a smackhead with withdrawal symptoms.
30mg of Codeine isn't a lot but I understand some people react differently to opiate based drugs and some are more susceptible than others.

They originally said they didn't think it was a circulation problem.
Now for an update. She went to her GP today and whilst talking to him another Doctor she's seen before came in and asked what was wrong, when she told him he said "That's funny, you're usually alright, what do you think is wrong?" before pulling her leg about (which she said was extremely painful and he continued to do even when she asked him to stop) and telling the Doctor she was originally seeing not to send her for an MRI but to send her for an X-Ray instead. He's then apparently said to her "It all comes down to work doesn't it?" whilst looking at the original doctor and grinning like an idiot before telling the original doctor to give her a sick note (which is an insult as she's currently out of work!). Then he told her to keep taking the painkillers (which she's been taking for three weeks now!) and said she'd probably be alright soon.
She left basically feeling patronised and that he was implying she was making it all up in order to obtain a sick note.

She was at the hospital last Saturday, they were surprised nobody had yet taken any blood samples. They also said it might take 18 weeks to get the MRI? She did also go and have an X-Ray yesterday after going to the GPs so she's waiting on the results of that now.
She was rather distressed by yesterdays visit to the GP so I told her to send a letter of complaint about the patronising doctor and to keep pressing the other doctor on the issue rather than simply give up and try to mask the issue with painkillers.

18 weeks? Are they sharing it with 5 other hospitals or something? That's NHS for you i suppose but i'd try to press for a sooner date than that. That's what they told her although who knows if she'll even get one now thanks to that ahole GP. She sent a letter of complaint yesterday and also changed to a different surgery so maybe that particular GP will consider doing what he's supposed to do in future rather than simply look to hand out sick notes to all and sundry.
I've told her pretty much the same as you say to do, that she should just keep pressing the matter until they pull their finger out.
