Surgeon advise please

I had a abdominoplasty beginning of October. All went well, healed well, recovered reasonably quickly. Fast forward to nearly four weeks ago and I lifted my son onto his bed and felt a sharp pain under my scar line. It has never gone away, coughing, exercise makes it hurt. Saw surgeon he said he could feel anything and said I may of pulled an internal stitch. Questions are: possible hernia? Incisional hernia? How long till it gets better. Been four weeks and no sign of let up, if anything it's worse!

Why not go and see your GP?

No-one can make any more accurate a diagnosis on the internet than you have done already.

Two reasons.

Gp will send me to the surgeon

I know there are a couple of surgeons on here that will know infinitely more than a gp

Yes, and the surgeon you get referred to will be able to take a proper history, read through your notes and conduct a physical examination.

You need to be able to do those things to give the advice you're asking for. Anything anyone tells you on the internet is going to be guesswork.

You've had major surgery, you have worsening pain from the affected area, and you don't feel that seeking face to face medical advice from a qualified doctor is the right course of action?

Or am I missing something?

See the original surgeon again and reiterate the problem.

If all else fails then ask him to send you for a second opinion. This is an action of fairly last resort though.

An update:

Surgeon said possibly have torn an internal stitch, go away and come back in a several weeks if no improvment.

After the pain continued at much the same level if not worse I saw the GP.

GP suggested a torn broad ligament, recomended Ibuprofen 3 times a day for a week, rest and if not better in 2 weeks she'll book a laparoscopy.


So in conclusion, it seems to be completely unrelated to the surgery and the reason I asked here was I just didnt know what "might" have caused the pain. I must admit I was worried the GP would send me back to the surgeon who kind of fobbed me off, at least for a while. Still all sorted now (touch wood)
