Fitbit or other trackers
Discussion
After many years on the pies and creeping past the 40 years mark I've decided to do something about my fitness. I'm tempted by one of the growing number of activity trackers and have pretty much made my mind up on a fitbit, I'd prefer the new flex but seeing as that's not out yet I may just buy a fitbit one.
Has anyone got one of these devices (fitbit, nikefuel etc) and what do you think of them?

I've seen a lot of people use them for logging with MFP but I'm struggling to see the point. It just confirms what you already know in terms of daily movement but then you have to ask yourself "So what?". I've consistently lost weight without one... as have millions of others.
Perhaps, however, it might encourage you to move more. But then why not just get a basic stepper for £5?

I know... but I still don't need it to achieve my goals. I nearly bought one cos a lot of my MFP contacts were getting them but then I realised it didn't seem that useful to me. I'd rather spend £100 on something else eg a gym bike or a set of weights.
However, if you feel it would motivate you to train harder, then get one. It can auto-connect to MFP for logging output which many find useful. Thing is, it's not difficult to log that you cycled for 20 minutes.

Presume it is biased towards the movement side bit either way, simple reality for most people is that they don't know & what they eat is far more of a killer than sloth, relative or absolute.Perhaps, however, it might encourage you to move more. But then why not just get a basic stepper for £5?
Rightly or wrongly, bulk = calories for most & hours of plodding must be healthy and that's the bit they need to cure, just like realising that aimlessly plodding or pounding the streets isn't necessarily the answer.
A stepper that costs a quid may be equally useless as the £5 or £500 one. If they show the light, as it were, they work and are good enough, even if not great in absolute terms.

Not meaning to be rude but as per your reply on another thread, I'm not entirely sure what your point is. Are you saying it's all about diet? If so, I agree.Rightly or wrongly, bulk = calories for most & hours of plodding must be healthy and that's the bit they need to cure, just like realising that aimlessly plodding or pounding the streets isn't necessarily the answer.
