Towards the end of November, I fell halfway dowwn a manhole - like a pratt.

Anyway, I landed with the bottom of my rib cage against the manhole frame.

Since them, it's been quite uncomfortable if I move suddenly from one side to another or today, when moving a few motorcycles around, the muscles are now aching again.

I'm pretty fit and walk quite alot,so I don't really suspect anything serious and I think a visit to the Doctor is well overdue but I don't want to waste his time if it's just a strain.

Just how long can / does it take for a strained or damaged muscle to heal itself?

Go to the doctor so he can poke you about a bit, better safe than sorry and I would have gone sooner.

you might have bruised the bone if the bottom of your ribcage hit the edge of the hole.

Muscles are the fastest healing structure in the body, unless some catastrophic damage has occurred.

Could be tendon or ligament.

Depends on the type of pain - sharp, sore, burning, shooting, stabbing etc.

After several months you really should get to a doc.

Easing again now, but tends to be quite a sharp pain when moving about suddenly after staying still for a while.

Worse at night.

Just been to the Doc's and she says that I may have bruised some ribs and that it can take months to sort itself.

She had a good poke around!
