Metal splinter

I've got what I think is a tiny metal splinter underneath my nail on my right index finger. I've trimmed back the nail as far as possible but it's barely visible never mind accessible. Managed to squeeze a small amount of puss (tastes good) from it but what should I do in the meantime? It's not properly sore but I can feel it when I use my finger.

If it's steel (i,e. not stainless) it will rust itself out in a few days along with some puss, bit of germoline cream might assist.

Been in engineering for 40 odd years and had loads over that time.

If it's still sore next week I'll see the doctor then. Pretty sure I've got a load of them in my feet. Never noticed getting this one though until my finger was inexplicably sore.
