This damned virus that is going round
Discussion
At least it is in part of the country.
Starts off as a cold with sore throat, then lasts for weeks. My wife had it for just over 6, I thought that I had resisted it - but it finally got me and 3 weeks on and I can't shake it off.
Sore throat, swollen glands, painful to swallow - feels like a lump which is hurt by acid/chilli food going down. Had a pretty painful ear infection which has mostly gone but left some after effect. And it even got into my eyes, with conjunctivitis type symptoms; mucus coming out of my eyes in the morning. This latter has cleared up lots, at the start I could not open my eyes unaided where it had dried over night, but I am still slightly 'gunked up' when I wake.
I've spoken to the GPs a couple of time but the advice is consistent; nothing that they can do. As it is viral the antibiotics won't work,
So has anyone else managed to treat this naturally? I'm really just taking Vitamin C and trying to drink plenty of fluids and get as much sleep as possible. And although it sounds like an excuse to get pished, drinking a whisky at night does ease the throat.
I'm guessing that the medics are right, and there is nowt I can do, but I thought that I would check with the collective to see if anyone has successfully dealt with it.
It really is starting to give me the pip now.....

It is an utter b
d, I got it about 4 weeks ago and I kept it at bay until monday 4th march when it took me down, i had to go to bed for 3 days straight while the fever came out of my system, I got up on the friday (8 days ago) and I am still weakened and coughing.
Worst part is that my wife got it, she went down hard and is in hospital and has lost the baby she is carrying, I am looking after our other little girl who by some miracle has not had or got this virus whatever it is.
I am shuttling back and forward the 70 mile round trip to the hospital twice a day because I need to be with her but also make sure my 16 month old is cared for properly. I am being strong but also utterly broken both physically and mentally and I am worried about money too.
To say we are pissed off about this particular illness is an understatement.

Makes you realize that we all take medicine and medical expertise for granted. Thousands of people dying of influenza in 1918 seems unbelievable - until you experience something like this. Kinda brings it home that we may all be more healthy and resistant to disease but by no means immune.
Add to this that bugs are getting more resistant to antibiotics, and it is all a bit scary.
Glad to hear that you are home and getting back to normal, but so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope that you and the wife are coping OK.
