About 4 days ago I noticed lots if red spots/blotches coming up on my skin all I've my legs and arms, but worse on thighs.

They can be itchy but not all the time.

Yesterday evening they seemed to be growing down, but today I notice they are worse again.

I've never had hives before but wondering if it could be?

At first I thought it was bites, but I can't see how and they aren't as itchy as bites I've had before

This sounds like a condition I have, and the medical name is Urticaria. They are small hives in effect and can be triggered by multiple or single things. There are 2 types Acute and Chronic, acute ones go away within a matter of weeks, chronic ones can remain with you for years in some cases. They are not dangerous or contagious but can be very irritating and unsightly. Mine first appeared in the gym and the trigger for me is my core temperature - for example if I go running I am fine before and during, however afterwards when my core temp is dropping - hives appear - mainly torso and arms - they stay for around an hour then fade away. If they start to appear more regularly then do some research and try to find the trigger which causes them - this could - cold wind, food allergens, alcohol, rapid temperature changes, pressure from clothing to name a few.

The actual condition of hives is simply the release of natural histamine in your body - basically the body is defending itself against a perceived threat (allergen)when there isn't one. The blotches are just receptor points under the skin where histamine is being released.

Doctors will prescribe various antihistamines, however if the condition is chronic then these only mask the issue and do not eradicate the symptoms. I found them to be useless to be honest and instead concentrated on the cause which is an imbalance of immune system. So I take specific B12 and multivitamins, milk thistle which cleanse the liver and drink 2-3 litres of water daily, and acupuncture which is very helpful and reduced the outbreaks significantly. Also diet is important - lots of iron, zinc and protein. They don't disappear overnight however they are severely reduced and are steadily going away.

Naturally everyone is different and i would suggest doing as much research as you can, hope this is helpful.

Had exacly the same symptons as well as on my face .

Kept a food diary and eventually identified certain food colourings as the culprit ...which I now understand is very common....

Not had it for a few years however advised by the GP to carry anti histamine tablets ...
