Big toe pain :(

Playing football about 6 weeks ago as someone was lining up for a monster shot i managed to get my toe to the ball to block it.
Straight away a felt a massive sharp pain through my toe.
It been uncomfortable and stiff for the past 6 weeks but bearable... Ive been playing on it atleast twice a week since.
Last week in training a got caught on it twice again in similar situations (not as bad as the first one though) and both times it absolutely stopped me in my tracks and today its killing me!
It hurts on the toe knuckle (where the toe joins the foot). Is there anything that can be done other than rest? What are the chance of it been broken?
