Has anybody else had this medical procedure ? My wife has just recently had the operation and wanted to hear from others about what the troubles were before and afterwards etc etc

My Mum has.

Had loads of pain before she had the op and had some pain after. Afterwards the problem was she couldnt walk very far, sit down for long or stand up for long. Its probably 10 years ago now and its only the last 5 ish that it seems to be getting better.

I'd like to hear from others also as I might experience this myself after two failed mycrodiscectomies (spelling).

Depending exactly which procedure she had, then me!

I had a micro dissecting in 2010 which helped for a few months. But was then scheduled for disc replacement in jan 2012 - this is where they remove the disc and put an artificial one in. Unfortunately the bones were too knackered with holes to support the implant, so the surgeon removed the disc, inserted a cage and artificial bone stuff and called it a fusion.

That was 14 months ago and I am still improving - not fixed, not pain free but getting better still. I think partly the reason for mine beng rubbish is I waited too long to go down the surgical route - years of trying other things led to the disc collapsing so much that the bones were rubbing and they ended up with holes (not entirely clear what caused them) and nerve damage. Given my time again I would do it all much sooner!
