It seems to be getting increasingly more common in the gym that I train in that is seems to be attracting more and more people with agressive attitudes. This seems more towards the 20-30 age range and seems to be amongst the lads who have built a bit of muscle are on lets say performance enhancing substances. The seasoned older lifters just seem to get on with it but there is quite a percentage of younger blokes huffing and puffing and chucking weights about who definitely have a chip on their shoulders and almost have this gangster/hardman attitude as they swagger about the gym

The gym I'm at is the local DW Fitness and I go there as its got a great free weights bit but I can remember training over the years at many hardcore gyms and It was never like this. The owners seem to keep their house in order something DW do not really give a crap about.

Has anyone else experienced this at all?

There are a few at Bannatynes, I can't stand tts who drop their weights from ridiculous heights....mainly because it frightens me, but also because it's just plain annoying.

I'd guess most in my gym are the polish/latvian 'imports'.

Yes, part of the reason why I turned the garage in to a gym

is why i stopped going to the gym..

that an a couple of times, there were a group of young lads, 20 or younger, clearly very high on cocaine, running around the gym like a kid in a sweet shop.

running up to the chin up bar, doing 3, then running off to the dumbbells, lifting them with the worst form and as fast as they could for 10 seconds, then going back to the chin up, doing 3 again then running off to the cross trainer, running it fast as possable for 30 seconds, then jumping off it while still in motion then running off to do something else 'to the extreme' for 30 seconds and so on.

now exercise at home.

Think it's been 6 years since I stepped foot in a gym. I did encounter this behaviour back then, mentioned it to the young, stick thin staff member, looked terrified! I just strolled up, explained the gym fees would rise if they broke equipment from dropping it, had a chat about how to train and conduct themselves. I train at home and outside now, less muppets

I train at a public schools gym, don't get too many bell ends there.

You get the rugby/athletics squad come in and hog the free weights, they have kick boxing downstairs they come up in a group and refill water bottles ,but i've found if your prepared to use the weight machines, dumb bells on a fit ball or kettle bells you don't have to wait for anything.

If you have to use a bench or have to use the smith machine you probably wouldn't get much done.

Another reason why I go to a private, non-commercial gym, ran by the members for the members.

It's ace biggrin

So bizarre. It's the complete opposite to climbing centres where you can pretty much strike up a conversation with anyone irrespective of age, sex and social background.
